1st S&W Model 629
Came across this flyer which tells of the 1st stainless steel .44 Magnum Revolver (Model 629) to ever be sold. "A Connecticut man paid $80,000, with the entire amount presented to the US Olympic Shooting Team to support American shooting teams at the 1980 Olympics in Moscow."
"...Ornately engraved with a Smith&Wesson scroll and leaf design by Paul Piquette. It has 24-karat gold inlaid line and border work in the regency style. The Largest of the gold inlays is "The Last Cartridge... "
According to the flyer the grips are "... ivory inletted with 24-karat gold S&W monograms and decorated with authentic American scrimshaw. It is packaged in a traditional rosewood finish mahogany presentation case decorated with gold plated brass corners and edging..."
Anyone have any additional info on this one-of-a-kind gun?

I believe the purchaser owned a sporting goods store. A few years ago, this gun was put up for sale at a price exceeding $100,000, but it did not sell. I haven't heard anything about it in several years.

Thanks for the information. Here are a few pics of the one I found a while back, a copy I guess. It is a pin and recessed 629.
