Model 24-3 Need help with it's value
Hi there. We are selling some of the guns from my dad's collection. He has been gone almost 14 years. I cannot find an accurate price to ask for this S&W Model 24-3. If you all can help guide me I would appreciate it. If you were selling it, what is the lowest you would go? It is NIB and has all of the paperwork, cleaning kit, etc.
~Thank you in advance for your help.
These are original photos taken by me.

I paid $600 for one in about the same condition but without the box but that was eight years ago. I would think where I shop a minimum of $1000 for the package. Probably more on an auction site but then you have to pay fees. Best bet might be to offer it here in the Classified section; no fees. Good luck.

I'm thinking a package like that would easily be in the $1000-$1200 range.

1984 manufacture, second year after reintroduction. ANIB value according the the Catalog (4 years ago ) $900, so around $1000-$1200, I'd say. Catalog also says 4875 mfg. with 6-1/2" barrel, and all the 6-1/2's are 3T guns with the Patridge front sights. Nice revolver, you planning to keep it, I hope?
Had it been a dash-2 or earlier, value would have been about 5X that; the model was D/C'd in 1967 and reintroduced in 1983.

Actually, this M24-3 was made on Tuesday, August 30, 1983. That year, S&W dropped the pinned barrel on the -3 version. I agree with the upper estimates on value. But, the caveat is that it may go higher in today's buying environment.

I concur, $1200 is a fair price for the package. However, on an auction site it might go a good bit higher as 24-3s are hard to come by. Honestly, I'd ask $1500. You can always come down if it doesn't sell.

I have never sold anything on this forum, only on GB. I am happy to drop those fees though! Is it pretty simple to post and sell in the Classifieds on this forum? Advice? I will only ship from my FFL and to an FFL. There has been a lot of learning since my sibling and I started this process.

Use the same photos from your original post and throw it on the Classifieds forum.

It looks like the only thing missing is the 'Circle C' for the inspection.

Go to the "guns for sale or trade" section, read the rules reminder and some of the stickies. Then peruse some of the adds and you'll see how simple it can be.

I thought that only applied to the stainless guns.

It would be difficult for me to sell that. The dash threes on the 24 Models were/are great guns. Lew Horton helped move a few.
I have much cheaper guns my Dad gave me that I find difficult to sell.

The turn line shows that it has at least been handled and dry fired a bit, so technically not 100% NIB. But I don't think that will affect the value for someone who wants to shoot it. And it would be a shame not to. A similar package for a 6.5" Model 24-3 sold about a week ago on Gunbroker for $1176 so $1100-$1150 and not having to pay auction fees would be a fair selling price.

I would love to know how you find out the manufacturing date. I have not been able to do that. Very impressed! Thank you for the info!

The Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson is the Bible for S&W collectors. Any serious S&W collector should own this book. It contains an index of Models, serial numbers and general production dates. However, some older models it only gives a range of dates and serial number over a period of years. All of the Model 24-3s were made in 1983-84.
Many people here own one and will happily look up dates for anybody who asks. For precise shipping dates you will have to get a factory letter.
I am fortunate enough to own all three barrel lengths, 3",4" and 6 1/2", of the Model 24-3s. Absolutely wonderful guns. I wouldn't even consider selling any of them.
My .44 Specials.

It's easy when you have the original box with the Julian date stamped on it. In your case under the "spec order" heading 3242 (242nd day of 1983).

It'd have $1,200 on it at the LGS I frequent. Everybody else has given out some good advice. Very nice pistol . . .
