Hi guys,

I have a 15-3 that I'm in love with and am now using as a CCW. I'd love to put night sights on this and have looked at some on midway's site.

The rear site seems to be easy to replace but this front sight appears to be integral with the barrel.

What do I do?

Thanks in advance!

No one has ever put night sights on a model 15? Oh no... I'm in trouble.

"No one has ever put night sights on a model 15?"

Apparently not..........

If night sights are that important to ya why not just buy a plastic autoloader, I understand it's fairly easy to night sight one of those

Back in the early 1980's my department purchased "night sights" for our Model 15 and 66 revolvers. The front vile was housed in a plastic mount that was super glued onto the barrel. There was also a hole in the plastic so you could mount the front assembly to the ramp with a screw.

Our armourer at the time tried to mount one front sight using the screw and ended up drilling right through into the barrel. After that they stuck with the super glue.....

I have seen installations where the dovetail cut for a S&W red ramp was used. In that case they dovetailed in a replacement for the red plastic which contains the front night sight.

Pretty expensive and IMO not worth it. The 15 is a great revolver, but I never found "night sights" that much of a plus to spend over $100 to have them fitted to any of my handguns.

I have them. I prefer the model 15.

I like night sights for several reasons. One being able to locate and orient the pistol in the blackness of night, or while its in the safe being able to find and grab it, not to mention the commonly understood night aiming.

I think some the new nightguard pistols have a fiberoptic looking lightpipe type sight on them, you might could buy the parts from smith and have it fitted locally??

I've never seen an old revolver with NS.......but again there's lots of things i've not seen

Why not Crimson Trace Laser Grips, these won't mess up your existing model 15 sights and therefore would be a cheaper solution in the long run. They are available for K-frame Smith & Wessons. Greg

That is a good idea in addition. But the laser sights don't help you reach for the gun in the dark.

Hasn't anyone opened your safe in the black of night to see the three green dots to help you grasp the gun? I live in an alternate universe.

Hi Don, I'd keep it there too, except I have many little ones scooting around and they are able to get into everything.

Kent,

that front piece doesn't look to me like it would fit in the ramp where the red insert goes. But it looks like you're headed in the right direction.

Try to contact 'um and see if they have a ready solution, maybe brush up on your Yiddish first though.

I forget who handles Mepro now; Kimber? However, it's probably not a big deal to cut a dovetail into a Baughman ramp to put the Mepro front sight into. I had it done to my 2.5" Model 19 by a gunsmith about 25 years ago, and it worked fine. That set that was linked to above WAS the set that worked on mine. It's a DIY project if you already have a red ramp in your front sight, like in the 29s and some others.

No.
All mine are in racks, Up side down.
Plus there is a big light just above the safe.
And as others said the safest place for a SD handgun is on you, Not locked in the safe in the dark.
And like said, You can have a vial put in a red ramp insert, Or they will even drill it into your existing sight.
And a personal note.
I have a LWT Commander with night sights,
And it sits in the safe,
If you are used to the hand gun in question, You will point it where it would need to be in a defense situation, The night sights you will want to line up with ???????
Be wary of the man who only has 1 gun.

Does anyone off hand know if this is what I'm looking for? Does the front piece fit into the red slot on the front sight?

If you read the reviews it fits in the front insert. Both of my 15's are solid so you either have to take it to a smith or be very careful with a file. It's nice having NS but your still gonna need a light to ID YOUR TARGET.
