Can you guys help me on prices?
I've been researching a lot and plan on going to a couple of gun shows in the near future. I'm really looking at model 19, 66, 27, 28, and 29's. For the most part the N frames catch my attention. I got a L frame 686 a week ago and want to start a little collection.
What are some good prices for the above in decent to good to excellent condition? I promise I've looked everywhere and gunbroker is crazy high on stuff. There's some that are way overpriced (seems like) and some that are ok, but nothing that really seems great. I want rational prices, I'm not going to break the bank getting into the S&W's and in my opinion it looks like prices have come down slightly in the last week and a half...a lot available w/o the bids...
Thanks,
Kyle

Kyle if I were you I would slow down. There are so many variables, such as condition, barrel lengths, boxes, tools, papers, and other things. Keep looking on the auction sites, go to gun shows, even this forum has a classified section. My state of Tn. has a web site that you can buy and sell guns on, maybe your state does to. It will take some time to find out what gun prices are and more time to find a good deal. This is part of the fun, the "HUNT" Don

I recommend gun shows if there are any in your area. You get to see bunches of guns in one place, often at good prices and you'll meet some great people.

All can be had cheaper than you think.
Last month saw a very nice model 28 for 375, Could have gotten it for less.
Model 19 I have seen in the 350 range
Model 27, 450+ range
Saw a 29-2 6" few months back in 98% for 400, I was a fool to not get that one.
And I bought a 6" 66 for 350 5 months ago.
Take your time and you will be rewarded for your patience !! ! !
Best deal I got lately on a smith was a model 36 no dash in 95%+ for 300 OTD.
Your local gun shops are really the best values as of the past couple years,
And occasionally the gun shows

A auction site is almost the most accurate form of pricing out there and gunbroker is no exception. If you think the prices are high there, wait till you start looking at gun shows. Honestly, it is tough to find a nice S&W at a gun show...PERIOD! You just don't see them.
There are ups and downs of both buying on auction and in person. Auction sites, you get a wide variety of items and a vareity of prices. You may find the exact thing you want and have to pay what is a pretty fair market value. But, every couple of transactions, you will either be happy or disappointed...just the price you pay.
Gun shows, you get to see the guns in your hand...if you. About once a show I find a nice S&W worth the money. I either buy it or I kick myself in the butt later for not buying it. It is just tough, people don't really care about getting rid of good S&W's. Some are high priced and some are crazy high priced!
Between this forum and gunbroker, you can get a accurate assessment of what you should pay for a S&W anywhere.

Go to gunbroker and click on "revolvers" for sale. Type in "Smith and Wesson" or whatever you're typing in. Hit "search." Then look for the box on the right that says, "period," and hit the scroll down button. Then access the "going, going, gone" feature.
That will tell you what, and if, they're going for. Many have 0 bids. Many have bids but when you look at the ad the bids haven't hit the reserve price. The rest are going to sell. The selling price is what you're interested it. That's a fair barometer for the market value.
Gun shows, in my opinion, are a terrible place to buy guns unless you're targeting private parties who are looking to sell.
Actually, this forum has some of the best prices I've seen.

Kyle;
Agree with Don, do your background research to know what you are looking at when you see it. Bigger gun shows will have a greater selection but arrive early, many deals are gone by the time most buyers arrive. Many smaller shows may not have any S & W revolvers at all (don't ask me how I know).
You will find more guns and generally better deals on the gun auction and sales sites, but do your research there too. Make sure the online seller has an inspection/return privilege policy, usually it will be 3 days after receipt. Enjoy your new addiction
