Questions about Model 27
Hello, This is my first post. I just bought this model 27 from a guy I work with and would like some opinions on it. It is a 5", 27-2, condition is excellent but does have a few little spots of corrosion under the grips. Does the FHP mark help or hurt it, is it a keeper? Opinions of value? Thank you.

Welcome to the Forum - NICE First Post! 
It's a nice gun and the fact that it is "Florida Highway Patrol" I do not think it will hurt the value at all. Some Police gun collectors would probaly even pay a premium.
I don't know what you have invested in it, but it looks nice and the 5" barrel is cool

Your gun was one of 500 shipped to the Department of Public Safety in Tallahassee on March 13, 1975. Delivered to the Florida Highway Patrol they were stamped FHP and an inventory number by the agency.
Value on agency stamped guns depends on who is shopping. A collector of Florida cop guns will pay more. A purist will pay less or pass altogether.
I bought #1581 in 1989 for $215. Your is the 3rd other one I have seen since then. The FHP had a history of buying 357 revolvers in nickel with 5" barrels. They also bought special order nickel M28s and some Colt Troopers.
I realize that I am a stupid idiot who spreads misinformation but I happen to know about the FHP 27s.

Thanks for the quick responses and thank you SaxonPig for your information.
I had my LEO brother run the serial # for me just to be sure it was OK. ( I gave 300.00 for it, I thought that was a steal and wanted to make sure it hadn't been ) He said he had been told at that time Florida was in the habit of issuing nickle because of the climate.
I'm trying to decide what to do with it. I'm not a big N frame fan, I like K's & J's. I am a big Smith fan though, and I like things that are unusual.
I would welcome any more information anyone might share.

Is it a keeper? OH, HECK YES! I have a thing for police service guns and that one would be at the top of my heap.

That's a very nice Model 27. It looks like it needs to be taken to the range, and have some nice 158gr JHP's run through it.

Nice revolver. I would definitely keep it. In California that revolver would sell at about $700.00 or more. It does not hurt that it was from the Florida Highway patrol.
Enjoy your new revolver. It probably won't be your last.

That is a dandy. I have the Model 27 mental illness and love pictures of them. Have a few too. That's a great buy. Wouldn't mind having a nickel one in my collecion either!

Thanks, Saxon Pig. Very interesting.
Here's mine from that series, #1546.
It has been converted to .44 Special by David Clements, and he added his front sight. It's in Virginia with Mr. Fishpaw right now, and I miss it!
