I'm a relative rookie here, and I love looking at everyone's toys, so here is my latest.
Early this month I found a very clean 2.5 inch Model 66 instead of the model 19 I had been in the market for. Today I put on the Badger Grips I envisioned it wearing, and I am pleased with the look & feel of it. This gun had spent a long time in the previous owner's safe, so it's ready for a long hike in a National Park (after Feb. 22).
Not a great camera or lighting, but I am pressed for time at the moment. Custom knife by Sam Cox, compass by Suunto.

I also have an Ia Highway Patrol 66 2 1/2" the best gun I own.

Thanks guys...

My favorite Smith to shoot is my 4 inch K frame 18-4 in .22LR
However, out in the boonies, on our own (wife & 2 small kids) nothing feels as secure a magnum on your hip/in your pack.
It will command respect from man or beast.

Great and classic .357 S&W snubby! I was born in Sioux City and would jump on one of those if you ever see another. Enjoy,

Jerry

Hello fellow Iowans! My office is in Onawa and I live in the Loess Hills south of Castana. I was in Sioux City this afternoon.

When the IHP went to automatics in the 1980s (as I recall), I think each officer could buy his or her service revolver. I do not think any were sold directly to the public, but many officers have since sold their revolvers.

JudgeColt,

My grandparents & cousins all came from Danbury ... you know where that is!

Jerry

(Sorry for the thread drift!)

Do my pheasant hunting around Danbury! Run with the Boyles- lots of brothers and many cousins.

What is the serial number on your gun less like the last two? I have a Pinned and recessed with the small logo on the left like yours it is some what uncommon. More knoledgable scources than me have suggested my frame may have been a over run that intended to be stamped with a dept. identifier, here is my girl....

I don't know where you guys keep finding these little gems... I've been looking for a little 66 for a long time!!

You got beauty!

I recently picked up a nice 4" 66-1 marked "Minn State Patrol". I love that gun. :D

The Model 66 is a very fine gun and my favorite S&W. I just love the way it feels in my hand. I keep Hogue grips on mine.
