S&W Model 36 38 special snub rifling question?
Hi, I am new to the forum.
I would like to thank everyone in advance for any responses.
I recently purchased a Model 36 38 special snubnose revolver.
I do not know how deep the grooves are supposed to be and have had no luck finding any information or pictures of rifling for this model.
I do not know if the rifling is worn or not by looking at them because i dont know what they are supposed to look like on this model.
I hope I was thorough enough explaining my question.
Thanks a lot!

Welcome to the forum.
If it's bright and doesn't look like a dirt road, it's fine.
This is a Chiefs Special.

My brothers and I can hit a pop can at 10 yards D/A off a rest consistantly. We thought that was pretty good for a snub.
Haven't shot a paper target with it yet, but have shot a few gophers last summer.
My favorite target load is 148 grain DEWC's over 3.2 gr of Titegroup.
Nice and tame.
Thanks for the welcome. I really like this forum.

I agree with the others. When I examine a used revolver, I first look at the exterior overall condition. If that looks good, then I inspect the bore. If the rifling is worn or pitted, the exterior of the gun usually looks the same. I look for pitting and rust. Some of the bores at gun shows are so dirty, I ask if I can run a patch down them to get a better look. I do not shoot a lot, compared with weekly shooters and LEOs, but it would take many, many thousands of rounds to wear out a Smith barrel. With proper maintenance, one would wear out their wrist and arm long before a Smith and Wesson wore out. Welcome and good shooting!

I'd say based on this that you are good to go and it sounds like it's a great shooter.

If a snub can hit consistently at 10 yards there isn't a thing wrong with that gun's barrel I can assure you.

That is a nice, normal, mint-appearing bore. Clean regularly and enjoy!
