My New Model 15-4 snub
So.........
Since my recent retirement I promised myself not to buy another gun until I find the 617 , 17-6 or a Colt Diamondback .22 I have been losing sleep over lately.......
While enroute to a Dr"s appt I stopped at the local gunshop Just to have a "Look" around..
In the gun case sat this beautiful like new model 15-4 snubbie in Nickle no less....After picking it up I noticed it fealt like new and locked up tighter than a drum with barely a turn ring, Serialed to 1981 with pinned barrel and original Plain clothes rounded SB Magnas.
After .22 K frames .38/.357's are my favorite ...I had a moment of weakness.
I do occasionally see snub Model 10's but never Model 15's around here soooo I took the leap.
$400 with no box or docs was not a steal but compared to the price of a new gun....Plus its a pre IL classic....RIGHT?
It came with a used Bianchi holster....Thats worth $20 bucks !
I suppose I need my fellow addicts to sooth my unrest and tell me it was a "Good" thing to do.....I does look real pretty next to my Model 12 and 66-1 ?
I am still broke from the 8" Model 17-4 I just found last weekend , I suppose I can live on tuna fish for another week.....
WHAT WOULD YOU HAVE DONE?...

Heck yeah, I think you did good. How much more would it have weighed on your mind if you didn't get it? And really in the scheme of things how much is $400 in today's world? I also like to figure that in a few years you'll be able to get a better return on your $400 than if it sat in the bank.
But then again, I also bought a 2 inch 10 -5, that I really didn't need either, and I'm looking for a 29-2. But also I don't have any regrets.

I really like the look of the Model 15 2-inch revolver. This one is nice in nickel.

15 HB barrel contour and frame
Just realized....My new Model 15 has a Heavy barrel like the model 19.
Model 15 (Left) with 4" tapered barrel next to 2" snub HB M15 (Right)
A quick check in SCSW found out M 15's came in both heavy and tapered barrels.
Model 15 HB snub (Left) next to a 3" snub M66-1 (Right)
It says nothing about frame differences but they have to be cut different.
A HB frame has square edges where they meet the barrel like a Model 19 frame.
Has anyone miked their HB M15 frame and compared it to a M19?
I cant find my micrometer....UGH!

You did good
If that were me the Ben Franklin's would have flew out of my pocket
You scored real good.
I've been looking for a model 67 and one of the local pawn shops just put out a 67 no dash. After looking it over I offered $275 and said that was even a bit high because it was rode hard and put away wet, blueing gone on rear sight, no original grips, and had significant end shake. They came back with $400 out the door
I said no thanks and walked. It's a real shame to see classic guns not well cared for.
Have fun with your new blaster.
And since it's nickel I'd keep it away from Hoppie's because the general consensus is that nickel doesn't like Hoppie's #9. I use breakfree CLP on mine.

This is spooky. My three favorite snubs are a M66-1, a 4 screw M12 and a 2" nickel M15 a few years older than yours. I think you did fine. You aren't going to regret it.

I have a Model 15 2" I bought used in 1985. It was the 3rd revolver I owned since turning 21 in 1983 and is my most favorite handgun. Mine was converted to a round butt configuration by the original owner and I really like that mod. Hard to believe that was 25 years ago.

Treat it well and shoot the snot out of that Model 15 that is what they were made for. If Tuna casserole gets too much for the Palate; local your local food bank for enough groceries for a coupla days.

Great find. I still want a 2" M15 to go with my 4" M15-4 which still is the best shooting gun ever!
I have a 2" Model 10 RB coming in this week from Summit Gun Broker so that will have to do till I find my own 2" 15.

Looks like an important artifact to me....... picked up during your archaeological endeavors! I know about these things since I just picked up a blue Model 10 with 4" pencil barrel in 98+ condition. These old smiths in super condition are a real find. I had to pay $285 before taxes.

There is a reason the 2" Model 15 revolvers are popular. Mine is so accurate, even in my hands, that I consider it a real gun, not a plaything, even though the caliber doesn't start with "4." Although I usually carry a 12 in my placid surroundings, the 2" 15 is the first thing I look to if there is any reason at all to consider that I might actually have to use the thing. Very comfortable and easy to conceal.

I've never seen a snub M15 that didn't have the heavy barrel profile. I think they might have all been that way. The 4" could be had either way.

Engine49guy, I have a Nickel 15-4 2" TH-TT that looks like the one you purchased. I have never fired it because it could be unfired for the most part, now I'm curious about the heavy barrel. I need to look at mine, thanks for the pics.

I know this is an old post, but dang I'd love to see that!! My favorite gun u own is my Model 15-3 blued snub and I've really grown to love SB on k frames since I got it and I previously did not like it, but man I'd do just about anything to have a round butt 15-3, blued and/or nickel. That's beautiful. I've seen only one picture and it looks amazing.

The autoloading crowd can laugh all they want to but hits are what counts and a nice Model 15 makes that easy. I think it is one of S&W's best efforts.

Seems to me like it was your bounden duty to take that one home and take good care of it and enjoy it! Looks to me like you did your duty, and I'm doubting that you will ever regret doing so!! Congratulations!
