Sometimes Everything Just Clicks...
Went to the range today. Decided to take my NIB 4" Mod 29-2. So, it had never been fired in 33 years... I only had it a couple of months. Usually, I wouldn't fire a NIB gun, especially if I have another one like it. Well, I didn't have one in Blue. You can't take it with you as they say.
Got out my ammo and screwdriver to sight it in. Set up my target at 60 Feet. I started with the light loads, 8.5 grains Unique and 240 Gr, CSWC. Boom, right in the Bullseye. That's strange, let me try the heavier stuff, 19.0 grains 2400 and 240 Gr, JSP. Boom. Where did that go? OK, right in the Bullseye. Two more shots and I had a nice cloverleaf. . I decided to stop shooting at that target while I was ahead. I never touched the screwdriver. It was dead on! What a day!!! Looks like winter might finally be over.

Don't get no better than that. Bet you can't leave it alone for another 33 years.

That tends to be some impressive shooting. I hope you are right about the impending end of winter. I am ready.

I have smooth targets on all my shooter 44 mags (maybe Hogues on some) to tame recoil. You have a nice set up!

That's a nice looking 4-inch gun and set of stocks you have there! And wow, you're off to a good start with the shooting!
But you can't just stop there. Back it off to 25- & 50-yards and show us what you and that gun can do.

The guys that dont shoot their "safe queens" are missing out on some good shooting fun. Too bad their heirs will have all the fun.

Great looking revolver and it's a great shooter on top of it.

Someone left some clay pigeons on the berm at 25+yards. They were all either upside down or on their edges. I didn't have any trouble hitting them. I'd like to try at 50 yards to see how it groups. I'm a little curious myself. The .44 magnum is one of the most accurate cartridges that exists. But I'm sure you all know that already.

i had a day similar to that last week; I wanted to mount a new scope on my Rem. 40X .22lr but the scope objective bell was too large to use the existing mounts. I built a one-piece Weaver base from a stock bar and mounted the scope. At the range my first shot into the bank was right on. I went to the target at 50 yds. My first shot was 1 inch high and dead on in windage. That was great for groups, but I wanted to sight in dead on for USBR 50 targets. I moved the elevation adjustment 8 clicks down and found that I was now dead on. As you say, some days everything just clicks into place. ..... Big Cholla

It's a day at the range like the one you just experienced that we remember the longest. I keep exceptional targets now for the time when I can no longer shoot but I can relive the memory.

Guns are made to shoot not just to look at. Sounds like you made the right call taking that one out of the box.

Dan, you are so correct. You can't take 'em with you. After all, that's what Messrs. Smith and Wesson had in mind!
Shoot 'em all, and let the heirs worry about the value!!
