Model 10-5 Manufacture date
I recently purchased a Model 10-5 4" barrel and was wondering when it was made. Serial number is C979xxx. It came to me wearing diamond center target grips, which I don't think are the originals. Thanks for the help.

The gun was made in 1967 based on the serial number.

Let me be the first to ask to see pictures. I'm a sucker for a model 10.

Stingray, I will try to post a picture, but I have never done that before, so it might take a bit. It's in ok shape, but it is no beauty queen.

There's no such thing as an ugly S&W revolver...
Well maybe those plastic ones.

I also recently (Sat.) purchased a M 10-5 with 4" barrel, nickel. Got at gun show. A 10-5 never before got my attention before. And I'm not a "bling" person. I guess its more of our gun thing. Nickel is 90-95%. Cylinder is tight. Bore is sharp and smooth. Please help with DOB. Ser.no is D549xxx. Thanks to Hawkeye10 for photo help, and to StingrayG4 for encouragement to include photos.

Nice! I have a 6" 10-5, not as nice as that blued one. Mine shows the effects of both careless storage and a knucklehead past owner who had 0 knowledge but an endless will to tinker with it. After some parts replacement it has evolved into a nice shooter, if not a beauty queen.
That nickle piece is nice, if it were mine it would definitely be more "looker" and less of a "shooter". I have a few Smiths that I hardly if ever shoot, I just take them out once in a while and admire them, this would be one of those!

Looks pretty good to me, Roper. I like the grips on it too.
I'm not a huge fan of pearl grips, but they look really sharp on that bright nickel 10, blackpowder.

Here's a quick attempt at a family portrait.
Art, your M10-5 is a beautiful piece. I had been shopping for a 5 or a 6, but I was able to pick up the 4" for $200, so I couldn't resist.

I found this 10-5 with the old school grips(magnas?) s/n c7605xx, couldn't resist it either...sold another gun and bought it today. the seller thought it was a 1976, but I think earlier perhaps late 60's.
This one has an extra fat trigger and the grip-frame attachment. Lusterous Blue 92-95%, bore, trigger, cylinder all strong...My 3rd snubbie. Just can't find any model 19 .357 snubbies like my old one from 1981?
This just needed a light cleaning and lube. Faint turn ring, nice small leather Hunter holster and 50 rounds...done at $450. I love those model 10's - such a smooth trigger action. I put some really outstanding stag grips on my nickel model 10-7 yesterday.
When it's hot out here I rarely wear my full size glocks (20, 21, 22)anymore. in winter I can conceal them, but in summer I always wear my smaller guns.

Very nice . . . I would estimate mid-1965 based on known ship dates nearby. If ever you decide she needs to find a new home, please let me know.
That "fat trigger" is an aftermarket trigger shoe held in place with two allen set screws. It can be easily removed with the correct (very small) allen wrench.

As much as I like D frame Colts, my S&W 10-5 has got to be the sweetest shooting .38 snub I've shot.

Help me date a Model 10-5
I just picked up a model 10-5 from a pawn shop. Fair conditions but I am having trouble dating it. The serial reads D136575. Any help would be appreciated.

A friend asked me what the value of a 1962 10-5 (serial number C8787xx), would be. He said it was NIB and most likely unfired, but the photo shows a pretty visible turn line. Any idea where I can find a reliable value for him?

Welcome to the forum! As soon as you are able, get in the habit of searching, and if nothing comes up, then ask your question in a new thread. A little trial and error and I came up with early 1973, here:
