Default I quit looking for a 19

Been looking for a 19 with a round butt and 2 1/2 barrel that I liked and could afford ... or almost afford. I just plain quit looking for one as of today.
I bought a model 66 .... 2 1/2 barrel red ramp on the front sight & original ( at least correct ) grips ... look original to me and since they're not worth much they most likely are. Just that around here most of the time somebody has put Goodyears on them.
Will post pix when I get him home.

Uh-oh!
In the world of hunting for a specific piece, as soon as you buy something
similar to what you really want, the "really want" will show up within days, probably two of them, and exactly at the price and way you want them.

Such is the way things work.

Hey! I have adopted that as my approach when searching for something. Works great! Everybody oughta try it.

You will probably find THREE 2.5" Nineteens this next week. Always how it happens to me.

MT may be different, but I had a heck of a time finding the 19-3 2.5" gun in my collection. I even looked at two Reno gun shows where I usually can find most anything.

Congrats on the 66 though. Nice snag.

Default No you haven't...

You know darn well you are STILL looking for that 19.

A Model 19 is what got me into this whole mess. I didn't get that particular one (got bought while I researched) and finally "settled" for a '64 28-2. But the search for the K frame continues. I have gotten hooked on wheelguns, P&R Smiths in particular.

I passed on a 4" 66 (I think) & am a bit sorry, but you KNOW that my '60's vintage M19 would have shown up the next day.

A 19 got me started too but my 2.5" 66 is my favorite by far. If I only could find a 3" 66.......

Reminds me of my search for 19 2-1/2 in 2003.Found 2 used ones in 2 different shops.First one was pretty clean going for 350.00.I kept looking and found another used one for 350.00 but it was in pretty sorry condition, dirty, rusty, and just generally abused and neglected.A real shame.2003 became 2004 and on Jan 30 I left work early to go to local shop I had never been into because of conflicting work hours and busness hours.Told owner I was looking for used Mod 19 2-1/2.He said good luck finding 1 of those. Then with a slight grin he says I have a new one here.My reply was no way.Long story short I walked out the door with it for 350.00 plus tax.A year later I walked out the same door with a beautiful Mod 29-2 4" for 425.00.I really like that guy.

A Model 19 in four inch started me in 1976 but always wanted a 2 1/2 inch. Once I could afford one and had my share of N frames they'd about dried up and I wound up buying a 2 1/2 Model 66 which is a great gun too.
Sure enough I found a 19 in nickle at a good price and bought it. I'm still on the lookout for a nice blued version and one will come along some day.

2.5" 19's and 66's have to be among the neatest looking revolvers ever made. You can't go wrong with either.

Congratualtions on a great grab. I would gladly take the 66 off your hands as it would make a nice companion to my 4" 66.

The best gun I ever bought was the one I wasn't looking for.

I adopted this mantra after many unsuccessful attempts to find just one gun. It works.

Ohhmmm

Guys .... Thanks for the comments. I wouldn't exactly be amazed if one did show up, but I'm no longer in the market ( for now anyway). The story I've been hearing for the last year or so is (& I'm sure all of you have heard it too ) "Dam .. I wish you'd been here last week / month. Had a beauty ... & let it go cheap too." I usually put that right up there with The checks in the mail and others.
This is the first 66 I've had, and I'm a little confused about the serial number. Its BRS 40** ... and I can't find a refernce in the SCSW. Ideas ??

S&W really made things confusing with the switch to alpha-numeric serial numbers. I have a 66-2 2.5" ADR 03xx that I think is from 1983, but I have serial numbers starting with B** and I couldn't find them in SCSW either.

You did well for yourself. I want the same 19, but it will be a safe queen. I carry a round butt 66-1 w/ 2 1/2 barrel. Stainless just works better here in FL, at least for me. You will find many model 19s now....its just how it goes.

Flyfisherman .... I'm really liking my modell 66. It feels good in your hand ... looks good.... carries well & almost undetectable ....... what else is there??
Should have noted for any Va. residents. The 19 that I spoke of was at Clarks gunshop on Rt. 17 in ( I believe ) Opal Va. and the asking price was 600.00. Now that's a little high here in western NY, but the prices in Va. did seem a little higher than here in all of the other gunshops that I looked at as well.
Oh and I don't have any connection to the shop .... I was just puttin it out there for anyone else that may have been on the lookout for one.

About that part where one will show up right after you buy the "almost exact one you want". There is a bit of truth to that rumor. I looked hard for a very nice 4" 66 or 19. I eventually bought a slicked up 6" 19-3. Awesome gun, very accurate. A couple of weeks later in the same shop I find a 4" 19-3, action job, TT, TH, White outline rear sight and bought it. Geez, I want a 6" 29-2 in nickel. I guess I'll have to buy a 4" first.

That is a little high for a mod 19, at least in my area. There are very nice 66s around for the $500 - $600 range.
