Default Any info on this 10-6?

This gun has been in a collection of my wife's grandfather for some time. I know it is nothing super special, but was wondering if I could get some info as far as production date And value as the collection is being sold off. Thanks in advance. You guys rock!
The gun is in great shape 98% probably. Action, timing, and lockup is excellent. Grips are serialized to gun which is 3D72323. Inside yoke is stamped 6663 along with model. Original box matches gun serial number. And also all original paperwork as you can see. Even has the smith and wesson brown waxy paper! Fired very little, looks like it may have been holstered a very small amount.

Your 10-6 dates to 1978. If a true 98%, or an NRA Modern Gun Condition Standards "excellent" or better, with correct box and paperwork, low end value is around $500 in this market; I've seen 'em identical to yours go for as much as $650 lately.

I've rethought my 98%.... It may be a little lower. The wood grips don't look as pristine as I think they would have in the day. A few of the flutes on the cylinder have a minor minor amount of wear, but it is detectable...still very nice!

Sounds like it's closer to an NRA MGCS "very good"; here's a link to their assessment metrics: The National Firearms Museum: Evaluating Firearms Condition

If "very good", revise value only a little downward; perhaps a $450 to $550 range depending on the weather. The one I saw go for $650 was an NRA "perfect" with all original items, i.e., numbered box, complete paperwork, vapor paper and tools; it was essentially buying a "new" forty year old Model 10.

Yours is nonetheless quite nice sounding, with minimal carry wear; if mechanical assessment is correct and all times correctly and is in spec, add box and paperwork, that's a nice item.

I appreciate your help. I may list it here first so that a true S&W collector can have a shot at it.

Even the model 10-6 is getting harder to find in high condition with the original box and papers.

I couldn't see the caliber, I have a Model 10-6, that is chambered for a 357 magnum. About 2,000 of these were made for the New York State Police in 1972.
