I have an old s&w 15-3 that I am considering selling the number stamped on the frame and only visible when open is 3k939 this the only number I can find on it is this the ser. number it has a few minor blemishes on the blueing , it has the original wooden grips and what I think is the original s&w holster can somebody help me with the manufacture date and approx. value thanks thetroll
The serial number should be on the base of the frame handle/grip/whatever name you use. That number is a manufacturing number used to track this or that during the manufacturing process.
That actually could be the serial but double check the "Heel" or butt for the same serial.
If correct its an early 70's gun like 1972 ish.
I recently purchased a 15-2 in VG mechanical condition but not so great cosmetics for $200,
also bought a perfect one for $500 last year so price varies with condition.
Price is really affected by cosmetic condition so post some pics when you get a chance for a better estimate.
