CSP Black M66 4" Badge # 0225
I was in the right place at the right time today. Scored, a rarely seen, Connecticut State Patrol, issued revolver. Serial number (4K10615) series seen in 4th edition indicates 1973 production. Here are some photos for all to enjoy, especially our LEO brothers and sisters.

Never heard of such. CT to WA State, a far piece as the old timers would say. Great find!

Thank you, gentlemen. I thought it was a model 19 when I first saw it, but then the clerk in the gun shop said it was a model 66. I too did not know of any blued model 66'S. My interest was piqued by that rarity and the CSP marking. I am a CT native and felt like it would be very cool to own it. The gun was purchased in CT not WA.

That’s a dead ringer for my first gun, back in the 1970’s. A 19 that I think was a cop gun. I can still feel those grips!

Dino great score ! Very jealous. It’s blackened stainless I believe not blue. I don’t know if CSP issued by badge numbers but there would not have been a 0 in front of their badge numbers. Maybe that one was issued to Badge #225. My department issued 65s marked the same way - that is Smith factory stamping.

Nice looking model 66. Is the finish like the midnight black they used on the 686's?

Yes Sir, I believe it is. I have a 586-3 4" with what appears to be the same finish. What I know about this model produced for the Connecticut State Patrol I just learned from the 4TH Edition Pg 268 and a previous thread found here. Blued 66 Combat Magnum

I believe the 586-3 were a glass-bead finish to give it a matte blue look. They made about 1850 four-inch and 1850 six-inch barreled guns with that finish. I have one in each barrel length. I also have a four-inch 686 with the midnight black finish that is very similar to your model 66. I really like the midnight black on the stainless revolvers like your 66. Is the trigger black and the hammer case-hard color on your 66?

I don't have my 586-3 with me, for a side-by-side comparison, but it is my best recollection that the finishes are the same or very, very similar. Yes, the trigger is black and the hammer is case hardened on the 66.
