The book says special oversize Goncolo Alves Target stocks. Mine has the standard Goncolo Alves Targets. I don't know if the "specials" were really different.

All N-frame square butt grips will fit any N-frame gun. The same with target grips.

Does a model 57 have a square butt. If I had the gun already I would pull the grip and look for myself. Thanks

If it is an older 57......yes. All late model N-frames are now round butt.

The Model 29 and the Model 57 use the same target stocks made out of Goncalo alves. S&W did not distinguish between the two models.

Like everyone else said, all the square butt N frames will use the same stocks whether target style or the smaller Magna style.

"Oversize" means Target Stocks. This is to distinguish them from "Standard" or service stocks. Dimensionally 57 target stocks are identical to any onthe model target stocks of the same period.
