Default Age of Mershon Grips?

I have a set of Mershon "10 Point" rubber grips, does anyone know about what years these were made?

I know Pachmayr took them over, also do not know when.

I'm trying to figure out which of my S&W's these Mershons would be "right" on for the year, right now I have them on a 1978 Model 64, but also have had them on a 1971 10-5. I would like my guns to wear grips correct to the era they were made.

The 10-5 would be about correct. The Mershon 10 point stocks were very popular with LAPD street coppers during that time frame.

Default Thanks!

Great info, thank you! I assume the Mershons came out in the early 70's?

I may be wrong but I think I spotted a pair of white Mershon grips on a cops revolver in the movie "Bullitt", in the scene where McQueen is walking around the hospital they have a motorcycle cop with what looks like a white grip in the Mershon shape sticking out of his holster.

I think the motor cop in "Bullit" had a set of Franzite fake ivory on his revolver. The Mershon "10 point" stocks were black rubber.

I have a K-22 that my Dad purchased from a Navy Pistol Team Member in Key West Fl back around 1953. It has the 10-Point grips on it and it had them on it when we got it back in the early 1950's So... they have been around since the early 1950's

I know this is an old thread, but I just saw it. I have a reprint of a 1939 Stoeger's Gun catalog, the predecessor to the Shooters Bible. It lists the Mershon grips for Smith and Wesson and (that other brand) revolvers, and the text does not read like it is a new item.

Yes, Mershon is an old outfit and produced all sorts of things under the Fray - Mershon name. Here's a patent for a vise filed in 1935: Patent US2100513 - MERSHON - Google Patents

It's difficult to determine exactly what they are from the photo, but those white stocks look like they might be old Murad Pointer hard plastic target stocks. These were fairly common while it's doubtful Mershon's rubber grips were ever colored white.

I recall the first time I saw Bullitt back in 1982 (I was 14!). I noticed those grips on the motorcycle cop's revolver right away. At the time I figured they were just ivory. I told my dad that (he was a career state trooper) and he just laughed. Said that he wanted to meet the cop who could afford ivory grips. But nevertheless they are sharp looking - at least from a distance and 45 years later.
