Was the ramp type front sight originally plain black, and when did it change to red? Were Red Ramp/ White Outline always together, or could they be had separately?

The Baughman quick draw ramp front sight originated in the mid 30's. Registered Magnum 0 IIRC was the first to have it and was shipped to Baughman after he had sent his sketch to S&W. I guess since it was 0 it might be considered a pre RM. The gun is in the Ray Cheely collection. I believe the red insert was added some time later, but pre WWII. The shape has changed over the years.
