Finally joined the Highway Patrolman club! Can anyone tell me its DOB?
At this weekend's gun show I was pleased to run into a kind gentleman who was selling a fantastic 28-2 with 4" barrel. Condition is at least 98% with little evidence of having been fired. There's a very faint drag line on the cylinder but that's about it. The piece came with its original box and correctly numbered diamond Magnas as well.
Serial number is S225XXX. Can anyone tell me when it was born? Thanks!

The book says '61 - '62.
Sounds like you found a really nice M28.

Hi,
Sounds like a great find. Any of the 28-2 with the S serial numbers are to me the best of the 28-2. Enjoy!

Thanks! On this forum we've all heard plenty of stories about sweetheart deals, but I thought this one was a nice score at $550. The seller also had a 6" version, which at the time I wouldn't have considered. Believe me, I'm considering one now! I also wouldn't mind having a later version with smooth trigger . . .

Nice catch. I was there and I didn't see that one. I was a bit distracted and left early though. Joe

Thanks, Joe. I don't think it was ever displayed to the public. The seller was walking around carrying a case containing several pieces including a 6" 28, but this one was in his vehicle. I only learned of it while talking with him about his other offerings.

I don't think I could have walked away from that either! I think you got a great deal on a even greater gun! Congratulations!

You cant do much better than that, nice find! I got a bit lucky with my four inch 28-2, it's a S prefix just about at the end of the S prefix's, with box and papers. Very nice shape except for a rather large spot of blueing missing from the left side of the frame, got a killer deal on it and put a set of target's on it to help hide the bald spot.

Hey all--I hope I'm not being off topic, since a couple of you are talking about your revolvers. I just got a used S&W model 27-3, and I was wondering if one of you gentleman could help date it for me. The serial is N928xxx, and it is blued steel with a six inch barrel. I hope no one finds this to be annoying as a first post, but it is a big reason for me joining, so my apologies up front if anyone does.

Your post is not annoying, but you'll likely get more responses if you start your own thread. This thread is about a Model 28 not 27.
