Default Factory Nickel?

Hi! My first thread. Just acquired a M19-3, 2 1/2 inch barrel, and always wonder about the nickel. Seems extremely fine and looks unfired (Yeah, right!). It has a capital N stamped on the cylinder face, and on the frame under the grip there is another capital N (among other markings). Is that a factory mark for Nickel. I have never seen a stamping on a M19 cylinder face before.

All my nickeled S&W's have had the same "N" markings so I'd say yes.

It's a factory nickel with the markings you are describing as I own many and they all have those markings.

Thanks, guys. I suspected, but wasn't sure. Not much available on production marks on the S&W's during that period.

Sorry, fellows. I wouldn't know how to go about posting a picture on the web. When I was a photographer, we put film in the cameras.
