I bought one of these three years ago, in flawless condition with a presentation case and paid $575. One thing to keep in mind is that the silhouette gun had a special narrow rear sight blade that may be darn near impossible to find.

Well, I paid a little more for mine than the person above (actually through a trade). Mine didn't come with the rear sight blade either and even after hours of searching, I still can't find it. Ended up buying a Aimtech scope mount and scoping it up instead. But it's definitely a shooter and not a collector.

I saw one in pristine condition last month at a local gunshow. Seller was asking $700.00, if that's any indication.

I see them going anywhere from $500 to $900 depending on what comes with the gun.

Check the gun's mechanics carefully. Many silhouette handguns were shot a LOT and often with heavy loads.

As you probably already know, generally any Smith that has been modified by an owner or after market gunsmith, will be worth less than an unmodified version. I believe this holds true for the low production, special purpose Silhouette model. I bought one brand new when they first came out, primarily because it was different and had an unusual barrel length. I fired it a few times, perhaps two or three cylinders, because all Smith's were made to be fired and enjoyed it considerably. The extra weight out front translated into a softer shooting 44 than most at the time. That is moot now, with the currently available underlugs. I have nearly a dozen model 29/629's in nearly every barrel length, so I have not fired my Silhouette in perhaps 20 years.

While I am a collector and I have no intention of selling my like new in box revolver, I would consider doing so for $1200! One like mine, my guess, would sell for between $700-800 to a collector like myself who does not have one. They were and probably will never be in great demand, but they are one of a kind, in small but not rare supply, and shoot at long ranges without effort in the right hands.

I paid $850 cash 3 weeks ago for unfired, with near perfect box, and paperwork. It did not have any tools. I fired 100 rounds and will continue to shoot it. Mild recoil with brisk loads that doesn't aggravate the arthritis.

Default Different Silhouettes!

Some of us really like them!

These guns were brought out in 1983 and the early guns were serial numbered in the N frames numbering series which was "Nxxxxxx. Sometime later the factory changed to the "ABCxxx" numbering system. The gun on the left above is a "N" prefix and the gun on the right is an "ABC" prefix. Note the differences in the presentation cases for these guns. The cases on the left is the type with the preformed plastic bottom and the one on the right has a foam rubber top and bottom liner. The case type was changed around 1985.

The early cases are usually found in this condition today! I have restored the case pictured above.

Those of you that shoot these guns might ask "Why put a scope on this gun and ruin the use of the adjustable front sight"? These guns were not drilled and tapped from the factory! Well, the gun in the center is a WELL used piece that goes deer hunting every year and on top is a red dot(for these old eyes in low light) and a see thru mount for the log shots at 50, 100, & 200 yds!

The guns with an "N' serial prefix will bring a slight premium because they were probably made in the first year of production and if you find a case please email me? I have seen only 5 of these cases(owned all 5) since I bought my first Silhouette in 1984! In my area these guns are selling for $800-1000.
