I Bought This S&W Model 18-2... Again

I bought this used at a gunshop in 1987 for $175. Even though it was, and is the most accurate handgun I ever had, I traded it nineteen years ago. Sitting around the other day with the owner I said I'd give him $450 for it. He said O.K. and now I have it back. It came with great real bone grips but I put them on something more appropriate. Here it is to stay.

Great union and story. I bought two 18's this spring about 1 month apart and I paid more for each then you did so congratulations. Mine were an 18-3 (Mint with numbered box) and an 18-4 in 98% condition. They are great revolvers and shooters.

So if you back out the price of the bone grips you re-purchased the 18-2 for 300-350, not a bad deal. Then you had to put a set of targerts on it. I like the Mod 18, I have a later version Mok 18-4 that is a great shooter.

Great story. I have an 18-3 and a pre 18 (1954). Love 'em both, shoot 'em a lot. (cheap to shoot)

Too many guns I've sold only to regret it later. Buying it back...after you're done kicking yourself for selling it in the first place you can enjoy having it back again. Hard to beat a model 18 for top quality classic .22 fun.

Me and my cousin have sold the same guns back and forth
several times in the past. It always feels good when one of your "children" comes home.

I sold an early 4" M-66 to my Cousin 30 yrs back. Got it back last year and was VERY happy to have it back in the fold. Especially when I saw he still had the early 60's diamond targets on it that had replaced a very bland set of targets the gun originally came with!

Concerning that old M&P that you put the bone grips on (they look great, BTW) - you wouldn't have any info on the DOB of that gun would you? Would you mind posting the s/n (with xx's as appropriate)?

Reason I ask is that I have a 5" 5-screw M&P that has the same type hammer (modern short-action pattern) but has the old half-moon type front sight. I have only seen one other gun with the same combination, and it was also a 5-inch. My gun is s/n C135xxx and letters as shipped in 1950. The modern pattern hammer evidently started much earlier than I thought.

That's pretty interesting about the sight/hammer spur combinations. The serial # on mine is:
C 2427XX
I don't know what year that is but always assumed it was the early '50's.
