Model 34 .22/.32 Kit Gun (dry firing)
In the S&W manuel under "Helpful Hints": No. 7 it is stated that
"Practice dry shooting with an empty gun. Watch sites when hammer falls."
I thought that "dry shooting" was a NO NO with .22 rim fir revolvers. Can I safely "dry shoot" with my S&W Model 34????

Do not dry fire any rimfire. It can damage the edge of the chamber or, in the case of a revolver, the edge of the cylinder.

Do Not Dry Fire A Rimfire Revolver
As stated above, damage to the cylinder and possible damage to the firing pin also. There are .22 LR Caliber Snap Caps available! Please employ them for the revolver's sake. Future gun owners will appreciate it.

snap caps for a 22? Nonsense...plenty of free spent .22 brass around.
ETA: Many modern revolvers are fine to dry fire. Some single action rimfires and the older DA's are not.

From the S&W web site:
Quote:
Q: Can I dry fire my Smith & Wesson?
A: Yes, except for the .22 caliber pistols which includes models 22A, 22S, 422, 2206, 2214, 2213 and 41.
.22 caliber revolvers such as models 17, 43, 63, 317 and 617 also should not be dry fired.
Q: Why can't I dry fire my .22 pistol or revolver?
A: Dry firing a S&W .22 pistol or revolver will cause damage to the firing pin.

Do not dry fire
Well Slacker, you seem to disagree with my recommendation and that is fine, I'll not dry fire any that I own, you are, of course, free to do as you wish. Hope you day goes well

Not sure where your getting that from, all I said was spent brass works fine, no need to buy snap caps for a rimfire.
