Just browsing the web today, and I noticed the prices people are paying for the Smith & Wesson mahogany presentation box. Unreal. 200.000 to 300.00

I saw a empty Smith & Wesson box from the 1930s for a .357 magnum, back when they were rare hand made guns, go for 700.00 a few weeks ago. 700.00 for an empty cardboard box. Wow.

I agree--wow--I'd rather have guns than boxes--what ever it takes to float your boat I guess.

I believe the box and case you refer to are the exception rather than the rule. The box was for a registered magnum and the case was a "clam shell." Both types are in very low supply because of the age and limited number produced.

Yeah, the cardboard box was for one of the registered .357 magnums. Scarce as hen's teeth. What was the number produced of the registered .357?

There's a regular 29-2 going right now for way over $300.00 --- didn't look like anything special to me.

S&W Boxes...

The 29-2 You refer tooo.
I think that's a double clamshell case.
Yes.
Scarce.
Hard To Find.
Rare.
Uncommon.
Unseen.

Gather round children, and let gramps tell you a bedtime story about when I was a whippersnapper, and dumb as rocks....
Along time ago, like 20 years ago, I purchased two Model 29 with presentation boxes, a 6 inch and a 4 inch. Blued , pinned and recessed. They were mint and new, unfired. They came with the cardboard box, and the presentation boxes.
This was about the time of the craze for the wonder nine autos. Everybody wanted a 9mm auto. Revolvers were in low demand.
I can't even think about those guns now because it makes me ill to think I sold them. Anyway, I had misplaced the wood boxes for awhile, and sold the guns without the boxes. I found the boxes years later. I sold the box for the 4 inch 29 for like 35.00
I'm thinking I may still have the larger wood box around here somewhere. They were both clamshell boxes.
I gotta go vomit now, I'm feeling nauseous..

Phil,
I'll take any remaining clam shells that you have and give you double the money - $70 and I'll even pay the shipping! LOL

Hey friend, I won't take your cash. You might need that. I'll just take some of those old, dirty, scratched up silver dollars your grandpa left you. Just send 50 of them. See, I'm so nice I'm giving you a 20.00 discount right there.

Who would ever of thought that "vintage" S&W presentations cases, cardboard boxes, tools, grips, etc... would end up giving a better rate of return on your original dollar than something like... IBM stock?
