"Rescued" 13-2
Saw what l thought was a beat-up model 10 in a local shop. Asked to look at it anyway and noticed it was both pinned AND recessed--a model 13-2. Had rust spots across the top of the barrel (but the rust looked light/powdery like it might clean up okay); the right grip was broken and half missing; a few good-sized gashes on the metal (one on the right side of barrel close to the frame, the other--about same size as the first--on the front of the yolk); nickel generally dull, dry and dirty. But the price was $315 so I bought it. Cleaned away the rust spots with a bronze brush and oil; replaced the grips with Eagle grips I had on hand; carefully filed and stoned down the sharp burrs on the gashes; polished the nickel with Flitz and then Renaissance wax. Came across a used Alessi IWB holster, lefty like me, that I added. Had a gunsmith look over (because of that gash on the yoke) and he said was excellent mechanically. Shoots great and am really happy with it! Only issue is the checkering on the Eagle grips is a bit harsh with 357s. I don't plan to shoot a ton of 357s through it, but I might replace the grips with magnas and a Tyer T grip.

...What a great turn-out! I love a happy ending. Very nice gun, and nice eye for a diamond in the rough. Use that in good health...

Good job bringing that old girl back into the land of the living. Can't wait to see her with the tyler's and magnas....

Man, you sure know what you're doing. Getting it for that price then making it look so pretty. My 3" 13-3 is our go almost everywhere gun (my Colt Cobra makes up the difference). And it rides in a left hand S&W pancake holster I found at the flea market for $5. You did really good with that one. BTW. Where do you get that stuff to clean the nickle? Did you have to send for it or is it in gunshops?

Congratulations, you have one of the most charismatic Smith & Wessons ever made.
The quick handling & "pointability" of the M13, IMHO, puts it on par with hi-cap auto loaders as a defensive weapon.
I like your Eagles, but my wife has these Ahrend maples on her 13-1.
We don't shoot a lot of full-bore .357s - no need for that - but I have a 1150-1200 fps, 158 grain JHP load I make, and the Ahrends work very well with that ammo. I'll bet that maple would look even better on a nickle gun....
BTW - M13s are usually rather pricey, at least in the Ohio/West Virginia/Kentucky Tri-State area. If you paid $315, you did very well indeed.

Nice catch and a great cleanup! My last couple of wheel guns have been "beaters", purchased for vehicle carry or for refinishing. Both were cosmetically challanged with the truck gun externally pitted in several spots after being stored in a holster and forgotten. Both are tight, great shooters with smooth actions.
