Default Cloudy nickel

Picked up a nice 10-6, nickel, grips numbered to gun. Looked great till I took the grips off to disassemble and clean. It's then you can see the nickle isn't as shiny on the rest of the gun. it looks great, like a mirror, but you really notice the difference when you take the grips off. It's factory, has the big N under the grips and on the bottom of the barrel. How can I polish this with-out hurting it? Otherwise I'll leave it be as it looks fine when assembled. Many thanks!!

I've used the liquid version of Flitz polish and a soft clean cloth with good results. Don't do it regularly and it may or may not eliminate the cloudiness, but it should look a lot better.

Flitz may be sold at some auto parts stores and google says Ace hardware sells it. Also when you are done cleaning it polish it with Renaissance wax or Johnsons floor wax and the shine will be amazing.

I've also purchased Flitz at the local gun shops. I think you'll like the results. Follow up with the Ren or johnsons wax.

I use Mothers Mag & Aluminum Polish on my nickle 40. It doesn't take much to acheive a mirror finish.

If you can't find Flitz locally here is where I get mine. I have purchased many gallons of the stuff from this site and find their prices about as good as you are going to find anywhere.

Flitz-Polish.com - Flitz-Polish.com

I also perfer using the liquid version altough it's not as strong as the paste. The liquid is much easier to control because it will readily absorb into your applicator whereas the paste tends to get squished into every nook and cranny as well migrate to areas that you may not want it to get on. If I'm doing open areas then the stronger paste gets the nod, but, more often than not, I grab the liquid........

One other thing, the paste also acts like a wax that is supposed to protect for up to 6 months. Because I am going to wax afterwards anyway, if I do use the paste I'll finish up with the liquid just to get that "Flitz wax effect" out of the mix before applying my wax of choice.........

I just used the tube paste Flitz on my Nickel 39-2...WOW! Very light touch on the surface with a damp cloth...it looks great! I will do this a couple more times. I believe you all to go lightly. Right now the reflection is mirrorlike!

I used Simi-chrome polish when my nickel got foggy from my body sweat in the hot weather. I had the same thing happened to stainless finish using an in the pants holster.

I used Flitz for years, but recently switched to Wenol in the blue tube with great results.

when you polish the nickel finish, do you remove any of the finish from the gun?
