A smattering of Smiths
(Just what is a plurality of S&Ws? A herd? Gaggle? Flock?)
I was rearranging my gun storage the other day and had a few of them laying out on the floor, so I took a picture.
Amongst the group starting on the left side are a couple of M-13s (3" and 4") two Heavy Dutys and two Outdoorsmans (Outdoorsmen?) in .38-44, four M&Ps, M-53, M-58, a Baby Russian, a 586, M-16-4 .32 H&R Mag, a stainless Luger (how did that get in there?), M-41, M-28, M-520, M-48, a 581, couple of Lew Horton M-24s, Model 1955 .45ACP, Model 1950 .45ACP, M-624, M-27 4", Uberti Schofield in .45 Colt, and a chopped Model 22. I think that covers all of them, but I'm going by memory.

Nice collection. The picture is like one of those "match up" puzzles, where you match the name with the picture. Good test of your S&W knowledge. Again, great picture and collection. Joe

Very nice collection, you should be proud. Where do you get the herrett's grips? I like the look of them and have a nice 586-1 that could use some., Thanks Mike

They aren’t actually Herrett grips – they were made by Sile, which is no longer in business. A few years ago CDNN http://www.cdnninvestments.com/ had apparently bought the remaining stock and was closing them out at low prices, in the $5-10 range. Since they were so cheap and I really like the shape, I placed several orders and bought what I thought was a ridiculous quantity, virtually a lifetime supply. Turns out I was wrong, I’m now out of the K frame size, although I still have some in N and J size. They were still selling J size grips but have run out of the others.
I really like that grip shape. I have small hands and although similar to the Herretts, the Sile grips aren’t quite as large. They leave the backstrap exposed and fill in behind the trigger guard, but don’t flare out at the bottom as much as S&W target stocks. They are more uniform in cross section from top to bottom and just fit me better. And they were cheap!
Hmmm, I just checked the CDNN website and it looks like they have K size grips back in stock, and what looks like newly manufactured 1920s style N grips. http://www.cdnninvestments.com/smithwesson1.html Perhaps someone has bought the Sile name and is making new ones. Anyway I just ordered another batch.
And don’t get me wrong, this is not my entire S&W accumulation – it’s just what was on the floor while I was rearranging. I keep meaning to drag everything out some day and do a group shot but have never gotten around to it. Plus, I keep adding more!

Nice batch! I'm curious about the one at the top middle. The one with the sloped grip frame. I just can't place the model number of that one. Does it start with an "L".

Heh, looks like I got the last of the K frame size Sile grips, of that style. I put in an order for 20, but they only had 7 pair left and I got them all. They do still have J frame grips of that style.
Oh, and I think maybe it's "a load" of S&Ws.
