Hi,
I just picked up a nice model 37 & was wondering when it was made.
Pinned barrel...serial #520Jxx

They started using J serial # prefix in 69 and stopped pinning barrels in 82. Someone who owns one can be more accurate on the DOB of yours.

If the prefix was j520 it would have been manufactured 1976-1977. I don't see a prefix as you give in the 3rd edition of the SCSW.

The J is right in the middle of the #, as posted.
My dealer was stumped when he saw it.

My father's Model 37's serial number is 74J8XX. Just like $2Ray's above. Square butt, pinned barrel, blue box. I couldn't find the year in the S&W book; Can anyone help?
