Default Boxed up this 19-3.

There've been threads on non-original boxes and if it's worth the effort. I'm in the minority around here and do it from time to time.
I found this one in the classifieds (thanks Dale!) and I think it looks good to have a high condition revolver in a period correct box.

19-3

I've got a shooter (or two) 357 so I gave this one a little special treatment.

I am in total agreement with you GF.

Wether the gun is a showpiece or not, having at least a correct box is, at least to me, a very nice touch.

Beautiful magnum you have there.

I dont see any problem with that. If I can put my guns back the way they came from the factory it just make a nice package. Now if you posted this on the Colt Forum you would get a major reaming. I like guns in their boxes, original or not.

Hey, how did you get my gun! Oh wait, mine is a 19-4. I do not have the box either. I picked up a Model 38 a couple of years ago at a gun show in a correct Model 38 with papers. Only after I got home did I discover that it was not THE box for THAT Model 38. So I put a better condition Model 38 that I already had in the box and sold the other one for a $75 profit!

That is one thing I keep outta' the box.

Once I closed the lid on a 29-2 with the screwdriver out of the slot and on top of the barrel....

It's too disturbing to tell about....

Not so. The OP said that he added the box to the gun because it is in such beautiful condition. There is no evidence that it shipped with those stocks.

GF,
That is a beautiful revolver! All you need now is a period-correct set of target stocks!

I have a 4 inch Model 66 that is about that clean, and it lettered to March 1983 (which is when I just happened to be in basic training)...well, it came w/ rubbers & I have since purchased a beautiful set of like new targets from here off the forum, and got the proper tool kit (off the forum too, courtesy of twomoons)...I am just still searching for a one-piece box to complete the set (w/ or w/o paperwork)...

I think it's a worth while project for those select few that you really want to gussy up...I could care less about my others, but this one I would like to restore to it's like new condition that reminds me of my youth and I can share it w/ my grandson one day...(my first S&W was a Model 65 I had for about 15 years, bought new in 1986 - I sold it along w/ the box to a friend)...

Question

Thanks for the positive replies guys!

You know, a good topic for someone that knows more about the -3 period of Mod 19's would be the target or magna question.
(sw282's post)
All I've seen have had target stocks on them but this box (with no endlable) fits the gun with magnas and targets are tight.

This is a standard hammer & trigger gun and magnas "look right" with that combination.

That would be a good thread for a member with an answer to start.

GF

GF,
It is correct for targets to be tight in the box. They will not fit in the box on the gun. During the days of the two-piece boxes, the guns were shipped with the grips off the gun loose in the box.
