Saw a 29-2 with a Baughman/Call Gold Bead front site?
Saw a 29-2 with a Baughman/Call Gold Bead front site today. It had a 6 or 6 1/2 inch barrel and was in near perfect shape except for a repetitive mark on every side of the cylinder. They had been storing it in the presentation case and there was some grime in there that was rubbing off a pin point spot on each side after they has cycled the cylinder, bummer.
Anyway, I had never seen one of these before and didn't know they were configured that way, I am guessing a special order of some sort. It had a serial number in the N427,xxx range, I can't remeber the back half. So how rare are these or are they not rare at all? Value estimate? Anyone have a picture to show? Thanks.

Dan the only way to know for sure would be a letter. I did uncover a factory McGivern front sight on a 8 3/8" gun when I was looking for a 1966 vintage gun. I owned a pre model with the same sight years ago but I dont remember how many screws it had.

I know of one Model 29-2 with an 8 3/8-inch barrel and McGivern Gold Bead front sight blade that letters as correct. It was shipped in the late 60s and is the only one I know of. However, this configuration is more of a curiosity and would be of interest and most valuable to an advanced collector of Model 29s.
Verification of the front sight blade in factory records is absolutely necessary.

Daniel...If the pin holding the sight blade to the ramp is exposed and not polished flush to the ramp, it is probable the original front sight blade (a red ramp) was replaced with the McGivern Gold bead front sight.
