I have a strong opinion about Eagle Grips and won't buy them. I also have a strong opinion about Ahrends grips and have bought a couple of pair. I won't go into my rant about Eagle but my experience was they wouldn't stand behind their product when it was defective. CH

My experience says you'd want to go with Collins or Herrett's. I'm not sure about the overall width of Collins grips, but I 'think' he would work with you and your needs for a thinner grip.
As for the Eagles? You'll gain nothing in buying the the Classics, I've had 2 pair and their is very little difference in width from S&W factory target grips and Eagles Classsics.
Call both makes (Collins and Herrett's) and see what kind of answers you get from them.

All.
I bought 2 sets of them for N frames. Eagle Heritage. Checkered with medallions. I like them.
They are not small. May be bigger than S&W factory grips. Other models they have may be smaller.

I have trouble getting my hands around the regular targets so have gone over to Ahrends - I like the tactical either with or without finger grooves as suits you. They are priced reasonably and you get several types of wood to choose from as well as regular or oil finished (or unfinished if you want to do your own.) Give Kim a call - they're nice people there.

I received a set of Eagle Heritage grips on an N frame I purchased. I immediatly took them off, as I don't like the location of the medallion (it's not where it belongs), I like the factory location. Nicely made set of grips though...collecting dust in the deep dark recesses of my "vault".

chickasaw hunter, sorry to hear about that, Bill there has always taken good care of me...I had to return some of their Coke style grips for an N-frame last year due to quality control & overall unhappiness w/ them, and I got a full refund...(including S&H - although I did mention I had been buying & recommending Eagles since the 80's & have bought some Elks from them for a 1911, which I was very pleased with btw)...

In my experience, comparing Eagle grips to Herretts (or Ahrends) is like comparing a Chevrolet to a Cadillac...or perhaps a more expensive automobile. I recently returned two sets of Eagle grips because of their mediocre quality...but I will say that Abu cheerfully refunded my money. A day later I bought two pairs of different style Eagle grips at a local shop, which served my purpose, although they required sanding to get them to fit the gun. I'm satisfied with them, because their ergonomics are better for those particular weapons than anything else I could find, but I see them as a typical third world ticky-tacky product.
I have one pair of Ahrends grips, and I've purchased Herrett's stocks for over three decades. The quality and fit of these products is above reproach.

If I'm paying $80-100 for a set of grips, I don't want to have to roll the dice as to whether they will fit or not..........I don't expect perfectly "fitted" grips out of the box, but I have heard reports that some of the grip panels are totally mis-matched in size, not even coming close to fitting.
A few guys on the Ruger forum tried the GP100 target-style grips and none of them fit right.
Altamont makes decent grips for a reasonable price. And they're made in the USA not India.

My experience looking for M29-2 grips
Well, it has been interesting to say the least ...I am in canada, maybe they don't like Canuks but here is my experience:
1.Collins-couldn't be bothered to help...his site claims "custom made grips" but all he wanted to sell me were his in stock inventory which is mostly out of stock? rating-00
2.Eagle-answered emails but said they would send requested pics and no further emails? rating-0
3.Herretts-3 emails and can't even be bothered to return messages? rating-00
4.Badgers-answered emails and real nice stocks but all finger groove, not what I want. rating-C+
5.Ahrends-only guy who was genuinely helpful, but his stocks are not custom made, CNC made and they are not the size I wanted....very nice to deal with though. rating-B
Tried several other internet outfits but they don't carry diddly for M29-2
I have ordered a set of heritage stocks directly from Smith and Wesson and a service grip from Altamont....both for the price of (1) so called custom made grip from a so called custom business, will see how these pan out. Pretty unimpressed with the service from the old US of A gun stock community man!
Cheers!

Check out Altamont, they have N-frame grips and are one of S&W's authorized OEM grip makers, so they can use the S&W medallions in the grips.
