I am looking at a Model 45 .22 caliber revolver with the box, etc. It is in 96-97% and the gun has a letter from Mr. Jinks with it. What is the current value of these guns in this type of condition? I have searched and seen some threads and pics of these and they are very rare and highly sought-after. The gun was shipped in 1962 and has the 4" barrel. Thanks

I have no idea what the current value is, but I bet it will be significant! I am very interested in obtaining one of these. If you do not purchase it, I would ask that you please pass the information on to me. I would like to have the opportunity to try and purchase the gun.

If the gun is straight and the box is correct, I'd peg it at between $1500-$1800.

A beautiful LNIB 4-screw Pre-45 sold on one of the auction sites a few days ago for $3110.

Being retired from the post office, a model 45 has been on my short list for some time. I saw the one rbmac52 mentioned above, and haven't seen one in good or better condition with box and papers go for under $2000 in a long time. About a year ago I passed on a shooter grade in barely good condition with no extras for $1200, and have regretted it ever since.

I believe that I have heard enough. I had much rather have a K-32 to complete my trio. Why does S&W not reproduce this gun? There must be a number of buyers out there, judging from the replies every time this subject comes up.

If its the "real deal" as far as the condition you desribe and has original box and grips. I don't think you can go wrong at 2K or under. The letter is a $50 bonus alone. Hope this helps.

Saw one sell about 2 years ago for under $2000...A Model 10 with smaller bores for $3000 ....suppose its the law of supply and demand right?


Perhaps they dont want to ruin all the classic Model 45 owners resale value.

Thanks for all the help. I am doing a trade on the gun. I am trading a 651 2" .22 Mag and some cash. I hefty amount of cash, but when all is said and done, I should be a few hundred under 2k. I got the 651 for 600 at a show and figured that I got it for roughly 1/2 price. I have another 651 2" that is a Lew Horton, so I figured the Model .45 was a pretty good investment. Thanks. I'll get some nice pics when she makes Tennessee her new home.

I would like one as well. However, I wish S&W would make a 3" heavy barrel, shroud for the ejector rod, round butt, k frame with a ten shot cylinder in .22 magnum with a addtional .22 L.R. cylinder.

First post: Are you bragging, or selling? Pictures?

I doubt anyone would want to buy what they'd produce. It'd have the internal lock with the attendant deformed profile of the frame, and just be too ugly. I don't care much about the hole one way or the other, but the reshaping of the frame just looks wrong.

Show us the pics! You surely know you have an uncommon model that is a much sought by serious K-frame .22 collectors. I have pretty much given up on the possibility of ever owning one, but that doesn't mean I can't vicariously enjoy the ones owned by others.

And welcome to the forum.

EDITED TO ADD: On the question of value posed in the post that started this thread, I would guess any high-condition Model 45 is a $2500-3500 gun -- sort of in the same league as the Prewar Kit Gun or the K-32 Masterpiece, with some variation allowed for with/without box and individual passion for a particular model.

Don't know about you Dave, but I would not even consider a trade of my K32 for a M45. You see many more M45's for sale than K32's. Most of the M45's are boxed and very few K32's are.
Monetarily, I guess one is as rare as the other and may well be of the same value, until you get to the 6" M45, then it is a whole new ballgame. Big Larry

I found one at cabelas in Reno two months ago...I would say it is 98%, no box and it was 1,795. No idea if that was good or not, but I bought it. I wanted one for a long time and had not seen one in years, so I grabbed it

There were over 3000 K-32 made and if I had to make a guess I would say that there are only half that many Mod 45 with a 4 inch barrel made.
As far as the 6 inch models go there were 25 made for the Boston PD as Training guns.
and out side of that there are less than 50 6 inch models.
