How much value do DWH consume? I like the gun, chrome not so much. The stocks arent numbered - should they be?

I wouldn’t buy it because I couldn’t stand to know someone thought so little as to roto tool his initials into something that already has an individual serial number.

To me the idiot ruined the value of the gun. But if you want a shooter it would do all right. I wouldn't give him more than about $600 for it because of the initials. If the initials weren't there, than gun would be worth more than twice that.

BTW, that isn't chrome; that is nickel. Chrome is for bumpers.

EDIT: BTW, target stocks are not numbered.

I am not sure I would want it because of the vibrator engraving and the hard chrome. That said, I keep hearing the saying that any N frame is worth 500.00, so that is my max number.

I did not look close, but if it is nickel like Mud said, that would not change my price

You did not mention box, cleaning rod, brush & mop, paperwork. Model 27s shipped in cardboard box, with standard hammer and trigger and Magna stocks until mid 1975 when full target set up in the wood box became standard. I see the target stocks and hammer, can't tell about the trigger and the serial number may be a little early (hard to tell with a Smithy). If you don't get the box then its not really collector grade and to me its more about the shooting at that point and those little initials only mean a bargaining point!! The worst thing about that one is the nickel front sight, which washes out in sunlight and is hard to see at anytime. I have seen 4 inch nickel 27s with nickel front sight, red ramp front sight and black ramp front sights.

I saw a 4 inch 27-2, in wood presentation case, in Tulsa last November priced at $2100. It had the black front sight.

So, if you get it for $600, I don't see a downside!

2. I would pass unless I could pay full price and be happy about it. Dealers know they don't have to discount such an abomination because somebody will buy it at full price. Won't be me.

I'm pretty sure on GB that would be listed as a "Rare 3.5", Engraved Nickel 27-2 with Three T's, Including the Impossible to Find Smooth Target Trigger". In the description it would further say "As often is the case with engraved initials, the larger center initial is usually the last name... so this one probably belonged to Daniel H Wesson, a member of 'The Family'". With that in mind, I've almost talked myself into it being factory engraved. But... if you're not happy with the engraving, c'mon guys, a little Flitz and some elbow grease and those initials should come right off - it is not even through the nickel...

Seriously though, it is too bad that that one got scratched up like that - I'm generally not a nickel finish fan, but I do love the smooth target triggers. Very tough to make the nickel look "right". On the plus side, the initials are very small, it is a 3.5" 27-2 and they are great shooters and fun guns to own. Even the shooter grade ones that I see go for $700+. So that would be my estimate of value.

Those are my Dad’s initials. I’d leave them and claim this was his State Trooper revolver. At least to other family members that are a little gullible....

Personally I don't like guns that have initials engrave in them unless it was some famous person. Engraved with a electro stencil is even worse.
I just had a pistol engraved for my son and it cost about 1800 for the work and the engraver asked that question about personalization, I told him no way.
I wouldn't pay more then shooter value for that 27-2, if I would even consider buying it which is doubtful.

Ok so not a collector piece but where I shop it would not be priced at $600; it would be more and it would not be there long. How many 3.5 original nickel 27-2s do we see for sale? I'd pay $600 for it in a heartbeat and have a great time shooting it. Good luck.

Good grief, $400 is modern J-frame/alloy .38spl Airweight kind of money......in anybody's neck of the woods.

This would not set on the shelf for very long priced at $600 in my area either.

At $600 I’d buy it in a heartbeat - I’ve seen scratches worse than that. I’d shoot and CCW the heck out of it!

The electro pencil initials would probably stop me before even looking to the price but I have to agree with most that in todays market a 3-1/2" M27 (that barrel length was discontinued in 1979) even in nickel (not my personal favorite, but some like them shiny), that looks that good and presumably functions mechanically clean and tight would for sure be labeled at 699 to 799 around here, no box, docs, case, and probably even more if found at Cabela's.

My 3: (Letters 1952 pre-27, 6-1/2"); (1976 27-2 Blue 3-1/2"); (1980 27-2 Nickel 6" with all goodies, wooden case, blue box, tools, docs, outer cardboard shipping box) are all insured for north of $1300.

I think that the OP would do well to snag that one at $600.

The Model 28 could not help what the previous owner did.
The owner must have been very proud of His revolver, so He wanted His in initials on it.

If I wanted the revolver and the price was within my budget I would purchase it. The initials will not hinder the function or accuracy.

Also that gun looks to be factory nickel not chrome...

I'd buy it for $600. and send it to Fords and have them re-nickel just the frame. I think they charge around $100-$125. for frame re-finishing.

I was thinking the same thing. Have it professionally refinished or buy it discounted and enjoy an otherwise great gun.
