My 19-4
I recently acquired my Dad's 19-4. He's gone to the Glock-side so I was able to take possession of his old wheel-gun. I believe it's from 1979. I just slapped on a set of Ahrends boot grips ... and picked up a Roy's Original Pancake on ebay. Now I've got one heck of a nice carry rig !
Sorry but it's so pretty I wanted to brag.

I've got a 19-5 set up just like that. Love that gun. Accurate and fun!

Sweeeeeeeeeet 19-5. Can't get into the Glock's. Every time I think I get serious about buying a Glock I wind up coming home with a new Sig. Have enough autos. Am now getting into some classic smith revolvers.

Thanks. My dad gave the gun to my older brother who didn't shoot it for the three years he had it. He was visiting and remarked how much he liked shooting my 9mm. Seeing an opportunity I asked my brother if he'd consider a trade ... he jumped at the chance.
Now to be fair, my brother made out very well ... he got a beautiful HK p2000. That pistol was worth more than the Smith ... but the Smith was the first handgun I ever shot ... and to me it's priceless.

Very nice.
As far as I'm concerned you traded up even if the $ were not the same.
Enjoy shooting it.
I scored a 19-4 just recently and posted here. It's a pleasure to shoot.

Very nice M19-4. Can't help myself around those models. I like the boot grips as well. Been thinking about a set of boots for mine.

An 9M/M bottom feeder for a classic M-19, you sure did trade up.

You ought to brag that gun up a little. It looks very nice and to top it off it has family history. I wouldn't mind having one like it.

Whats not to like about a model 19. I have a 4 inch -2 and a 6 inch -4. One of the finest all around revolvers ever made. Enjoy yours.

Howard

I'm pretty darn happy with my 19-4 myself. The best part is I practically stole this little beauty from a gun store that obviously didn't know what they had!

I did exactly that. Young trader here locally had a 4" 19-4 advertised on and off for several months for sale before modifying his post to accept a Glock 22 in trade. I had a G22 RTF2 sitting around that I had gotten in a package deal (with a stainless Walther PPKS, which is what I wanted to begin with). So we made trade. I figure dollar for dollar it was about an even money trade at the time. My thoughts were they make Glocks every day, there probably won't be anymore P&R S&W 19s made. I don't suppose you want to hear my story about trading a Ruger SR9 for a Colt Python do you?

There are things in this world that don't need to be improved. They speak for themselves and those that appreciate them are pleased with just viewing a nice example.(that is only because we are unable to own them all!) K Frame Smiths and Model 19s in particular are one of those things. Very nice 19-4.

Probably. Bought the 19-4 as part of a package deal with a mint 17. Decided to shoot it a lot, so it needed the Ahrends grips.
I have a 15-2 that looks about the same, and an 18, and a 25-13. They all feel and shoot bout the same, bullets tend to go into about the same spot.

These are the ones I think I know:
19-1 (1959): Change extractor rod, right to left-hand thread.
19-2 (1961): Cylinder stop changed, delete triggerguard screw.
19-3 (1967): Relocation of rear sight leaf screw.
19-4 (1977): Change gas ring from yoke to cylinder. (cost-cutting measure)
19-5 (1982): Eliminate cylinder counterbore.
