First time shooting with my Dad
I am 48 years old, and I have been reconciled with my Dad after many years. Today, I was given a Remington 270 deer rifle from him. I hit a one gallon water jug at 100yards with iron sights. Lucky shot. That's the first time that I ever shot a deer rifle. Back to revolvers. I shot the heck out of his S&W model 10-5 and my grandfather's S&W model 15-2. My Dad had a bunch of ammo that was over 20 years old, and I shot it all up. He said that it was my day, and he had me do most of the shooting. Excellent bonding experience for us. I also caught a 38 special PDX1 bullet in the third water jug as they say. Expanded really well out of the six inch barrel of the 10-5. It's also nice to know that this gun is eventually going to be mine as well. He bought it new around 1964 when I was just 2 years old. It's good to know that I will get something special from him when he passes. Just wanted to share a bit of my day with you. Thanks.

Shooting with Dad
That is a fine story - both regarding your reconciliation and your choice of arms! Thanks for sharing both with us. Hope you and your dad will have a long time of shooting together and catching up on what you can share.
Best Regards,
Dyson

Excellent day for you and your dad. My father has been gone for 14 years. We had a very good relationship and had no unfinished business. I have often told friends to make things right with their parents. Time has no regard for who is right or wrong in relationships. The worst thing a man can do is bear the burden of "unfinished business" for the rest of his life.
What a great day for you and your dad, thanks for sharing it with us.

I was going to say God bless you both but seems he already has. Great story in a troubling time. Thanks for sharing as well as the range report.

Thanks everyone
Thanks for all of your kind words. I am very blessed to have him in my life. Next time, he's going to teach my son how to shoot a 22 rifle. Can't wait!

This is a good reminder that we all only have today with the ones who mean the most in our lives. We do not know what tomorrow will bring.
My father is almost 88 and due to alzheimers there will be no more shooting days to share. But we still have time to share in other ways.
Congratulations on a great day and thanks for sharing with us.

I think that there is no better bonding experience than a son and dad or grandpa shooting together. My most fond memories are learning to shoot with Dad and Grandpa and going hunting with both of them. Both are gone now, but I am really looking forward to my grandson being old enough to take out and pass tradition on.

My dad has been gone over 30 years. He taught me to shoot, and I learned that "Smith makes the best revolvers" from him. I have his Smith revolvers to this day. I am glad that you enjoyed your day. Do that again soon, time is so short.
