Earlier this week I picked up a 2" Model 64 with California Department of Corrections markings. It has a few scuffs and scratches but mechanically it's like new. I swapped the battered wood stocks for a set of Pacmayr Compacs and hit the range for a test session. Just as I expected, it is a great shooter...

Congratulations on the purchase as they are great shooters

CDNN had then for cheap a few years ago. The 2" barrel models were for the California Department of Corrections "CDC" for issue to parole officers and ranking corrections officers. The line officers were issued 4" 64s for uniform duty when they worked "gun jobs" at the prisons or transporting. The 2" guns were by far the better deal as most of them had been shot little and carried little as many parole officers used different guns, and ranking corrections guys rarely carried on the job.
My younger brother was a career CO in CA, and retired a deputy commissioner of corrections, and yes he did get one of those fantastic CA pensions-he promptly moved to Montana to get away from CA. Said he was afraid that the San Andreas fault line might fault some more.
BTW, I do not begrudge corrections officers those pensions, it is the most miserable and dangerous job I can imagine.
