Gun Show Find 63
thanks to Allen Frame for finding the gun for me. I trade a 66-3 4" barrel for a no dash 63
Can anybody help me with the year? S/N is m1127**

I'd guess late 1978.
Unless your 66-3 was really a nice one I'd say you came out very well in the trade. The 63's are pricey.

I've bought 2 nice ones.
I paid $400 and $500 a few months ago.
They are both about the same shape.

Why is it that some no-dash have pinned barrel and some don't?

The change to the unpinned barrel occurred while the 63 was being produced and the factory didn't see fit to call it an engineering change. Many if not all the other J frames (the model 36 comes to mind) overlapped as well.

These are fine guns. I put a set of Herrett stocks on mine, as they fit my hand better, and shoot standard velocity ammo. HKS makes a speed loader for the J frame rim fires.

Has become one of my favorite range guns. The Winchester bulk box ammo shoots very accurately in it. Surprisingly standard velocity isn't as accurate. I don't know the Mfg of these grips as shown, but I recently found original targets to put on it which work just as well.
