I Just Bid On This 3 1/2" 27-2 In Ca. For $500!!!!! ADVICE!!!!
These guns are not allowed in California. We must all fight over what's here and you NEVER encounter this barrel length. Seller says theres an issue with the trigger sear or spring. There's rust marks. Another guy made an offer since seller said OBO. I said I'd take it in person pending inspection. Does his trigger sear/spring speculation turn you off? I'll never find one of these again in this state. Please advise me based on my unique oppressed Ca. situation. I have stag grips to slap on it if this works out.
EDIT: I am set to buy it tomorrow after I check it out. Your advice on those issues mentioned would be very helpful. The price is $500 regardless. Thanks in advance.

I saw that one on calguns and thought about it. It is ping to be hard to clean up the rust in the top strap. Going to have to soak it and try and find something to scrap it up.
Depending on how well you can clean it up you migh think about refinishing by sending it back to s&w but that might set you back more than you want. Either way you'll end up with a nice shooter and 27 in this barrel length are hard to find here.

I'd agree, $500 is a deal. You can replace whatever needs to be in the internals to fix it and the rust can be dealt with. A 3 1/2" 27-2 is still worth over $750+.

Well, I got it pending inspection tomorrow. I'm looking at it as a shooter and can't tell you how amazed I was to see it had a 3 1/2" barrel. Six inchers pop up all the time for more than this. I'll deal with the rust issue but would never refinish it. Thanks and let's hope there's nothing else to worry about when I see it in person.

Don't be all "nit-picky" when you go to inspect it tomorrow. $500 is a steal, and anything that is wrong with it can be fixed easily, by you if you're semi-proficient. GRAB IT!!!

I'd grab it in a heart beat and the rust will clean up quite a bit with (4) OOO0 steel or bronze wool with gun oil on it. Once clean wax it with either Johnsons floor wax or Renassiance wax and it will look a lot different snd way better.

Here's another shot from the ad showing the rust. The cylinder is freckled but the rest looks good. I'll fool around with that rust but the overall look is OK with me. The seller said it was a duty gun on "the reservation". I wonder what reservation that might be out here. I'll write down all history they can give me on it. It's being sold by an employee of a gun store out here that only sells modern, I mean realy modern guns.
I've been keeping my eye out for one of these like a six leaf clover for a few years now. Here's the rust on the topstrap.

Greetings-
I recently acquired a well-worn 3.5" M27 from my LGS here in sunny Arizona. The price was $750. The gun is a fabulous shooter with a glass-like action. I would buy guns like yours for $500 all day long. You should get it, clean it as best you can, and shoot the heck out of it. There must be other ways to handle the rust issue in top strap short of a complete reblue. In any case, I'd take it in a heart beat for $500, rust and all. Let us know how it shoots.
Respectfully,
Michael Q.

That rust looks relatively minor, I've had worse and with some overnight marinating with corrosion-x (and before I started using that, WD-40) it was hard pressed to tell there had been any after a brushing with a soft copper brush.
Nice score for a CA gun!! I'm warming up my car to head for SAC if you take a pass

The issues you mentioned are minor, $500 is a steal anywhere, especially where you are. Looking forward to your post today that says "I got it!"

Why is it illegal in CA? Do they have a barrel length rule or something? Anyway, that kind of law just makes the price (and the resale value) go up. Bronze or brass brush will NOT take off anymore bluing. Don't use steel wool. Brush it with a oil-wet brass/bronze brush and it'll be fine. Good ole WD40 works good. Touch up with cold blue. Cold blue will not effect value like a re-blue might. Great gun for a good price. I'm still wondering why it'd be illegal in CA. In CA, dope is legal and guns aren't; just the opposite of The Lone Star State.

In ca only guns that are on an approved listed are available for purchase from out of state. So hand guns not on the list can still be purchased via private party. Thus items not on the list have a fixed supply with an ever growing demand so higher prices.
However, the approved list has an exemption for single action revolvers so I convert s&w from out of state to single action and then buy them like everyone else. Once I get them home from the 10 day wait I convert them back to da/sa. This gives more info

I got it today and pick it up in ten days. I couldn't believe it was the same gun that was in the ad. Appearently the flash of the camera picked up the rust on top and spots on the cylinder but in person the rust looked minimal and the cylinder spots almost non existant in the bright light of the gunshop. This gun was bought as a spare gun by an Indian Policeman in Ca. who then went to work on the San Carlos Apache reservation in Arizona. Then he came back to Redding Ca. and worked at a reservation up there. He carried a different gun and fired seven rounds when he got this gun, got called to a crime, put the gun away and never shot it again. So said the the seller. I forgot to ask if he was the original owner but will when I pick it up. The DA action is slick as snot when it doesn't bind up right when you expect the hammer to start travelling back. No grip line underneathe the rubbers. It's a fine gun and I'll get that problem fixed real quick after I get it. What a gem. I'll take picks with comparing Kuracs and stags later. Thanks for all the positive feedback.
