Default Inherited Dad's Mod 36 Date help?

I know my Father bought this new, maybe in the 60's or early 70's. Mod 36 no dash Ser. # 412xx any help would be appreciated.

About 1964-65 acording to the SCSW. 1967 was the change to a 36-1

actually, the -1 designated a 3 inch barrel, and not a total production change, so they ran concurrently for a while. but, that being said, i think you are probably close on the '64-'65 ship date. is it a flatlatch, with numbered diamond grips? flatlatch went away in '66, and diamond grips went away in '68.

A 5-digit Chief Special 412XX would more likely have shipped in 1954. Am I missing a digit? Is it actually marked "MOD 36"?

I have s/n 40901 that shipped in April 1954. It is a "Baby Chief" with the smaller grip frame and small round trigger guard. Please post pictures if you're able and perhaps we can tell more.

i figure he meant 412xxx, if it was "mod 36"-marked, but who knows? he might be looking at the assembly numbers. i guess it could even conceiveably have a "j" in front of it. we need pics!
