Rare enough to not be listed in the SCOSW so it's probably not factory. The Model 41 came with a compensator on the 7 3/8 inch barrel and a few on the 5 inch barrel that are rare.
Maybe someone else can say more about it.

Ok I stand corrected and I'd love to see a picture of the revolver as I've never seen one at a gun show, forum, or GB so it must be a custom order and fairly rare.
Thanks

I had one of these for over thirty years that just 'sat' so I sold it about a year or so ago on this forum for $85.
Some have gone for over $100!! Depends on the time and the buyer.
AS noted, one was also made for the model 25 in 45 ACP.

Caution! There are reporductions of these. The repros that I have seen used a slotted screw instead of an allen head cap screw.

is original, engraved smith and wesson. the person who sell me the muzzle break compensator buy a pair of these,$60 dollars per one. i think this muzzle loader is very scarce and rare. today two old shooters seen the compensator and say wow incredulous, the most old say i no seen one of these compensators in 30 years.

14-2 single action with said compensator. If not lined up correctly you can forget about even hitting the paper. I found no advantage although it does look very cool.

$30.85 plus shipping from GPC (Numrich arms), still available. S&W also made them for other guns.
I purchased a number of these about five years ago, still have the best one. Mine all had slotted screws, but some of the screws were rusty and some of the brakes showed obvious signs of firing. At the time, they had over 300 still in stock.
I believe these were purchased from S&W years ago. I'm guessing GPC added new hex screws to make the last of them more saleable. They have the Smith & Wesson name stamped on them and I doubt the lawyers from Springfield would tolerate counterfeits and I doubt GPC would take that risk.

In the days when revolvers were a mainstay in the bullseye CF and 45 stages there were many custom guns equiped with such compensators. In the 1950's and 1960's when I was in northern NJ a local gunsmith crafted a suoerb shooting 45 ACP revolver from a miliotary Colt New Service using a sleeved barrel with a built in comp. I do mnot remeber any comped 38's.
