At the fun show today I found a model 10 in 6 inch.

It must have at one time belonged to a French guy, as It had been dropped once on the rear sight.

Anyone put a smith adjustable on something like this?? It will never be a collector grade gun, just a shooter.

I have a mill and about 20 years of experiance with it.

Thanks

The Model 10 is an exceptional platform to install adjustable rear and as the other post said you'd have to address thw front as well. Here is a pic of a PPC gun built on a model 10 frame. Heavy barrel, Bo-mar ramp and sights...

What a great example of a PPC revolver! I've wanted one of those since the mid-70's, and have never been able to latch onto one. You know who did the work?

Sure, folks have been adding sights to Model 10s since before they were model 10s.

Putting adjustable K-frame adjustable sights on plain frames was quite common and a lot of gunsmiths were doing it back in the 70s-80s when police depts dumped fixed sight 10s , 13s , 64s , and 65s. Some were very nicely done. Others , well , , .

You would have to mill a flat on the rear of the frame, then drill and tap for at least one attachment screw, then deal with raising the front sight. May be more work than it would be worth.

Could you use a 1/2 round tool makers file to clean up any damage to the rear sight area?

You might try checking with the S&W gunsmithing section of this forum.

Best of luck with whatever you do.

I forgot about the front sight!!! It is a serrated ramp style
on a pencil 6 inch barrel.

Took it out and shot it today did very well over bags with cast WCs and bulleye.

I have an extra K-38 barrel....humm.

Thanks for all the input.

Anyone cut the T cut for the rear sight? Think I can make a tool from an end mill by turning it in my lathe and using a tool post grinder with a thin cut off wheel on it.

There's more material in the bbl ring of an adj sighted frame than the fix sighted model.
Putting the S&W adj sight on the M&P leaves the very end of the sight tang kind of hanging out the end of the frame after installation.
Could be shortened a bit for a better look but the groove milled for the install will still be there and will match with nothing on the round bbl.

Putting a K38 or Combat Masterpiece bbl on a M&P will leave a small gap at the top of the barrel ring where the rib meets the frame. Again there is less metal than the adj sighted models. The M&P usually has a quite severe chamfer to the front edge of the frame on top and sides there.

Not that it can't be done,,but it's alot of work to make it look right.,,and you end up with sort of a K38 or Combat Masterpiece. Either or which can still be found at pretty reasonable prices.

Cylinder and Slide sells both fixed and adjustable heavy duty rear sight that would need to be milled into the topstrap, D&L sports has fixed, heavy duty versions...both can be found online...

I took it apart last night. The side plate screws were tight!

There was dried grease? under the internal lockwork. I cleaned

things up and put some Tetra Teflon grease in there. It dawned

on me I was the first one to pop the sideplate since Smith put it

together, in the 80's? It has a pinned barrel and non recessed cylinder.

Too bad about the French guy dropping it, is about 95% with nice blue.

If I can peen back the dent by the rear sight and touch up blue

I may just do that.

not sure who did the work..

Sorry Gunsandguitars I bought the gun as you see it back in the mid to late 80's for $150 from a LGS. One of my favorite guns I've ever owned and the most accurate I've ever fired. It has Bo-mar ramp, sights and barrel and the bluing on the add-ons is perfect.

Here's another example of the Bo-Mar setup on a 1970 10-6. This one is DAO with a bobbed hammer.

One of my favorite Smiths to shoot.

For what all that would cost I'd buy a Model 15 for $400 and that would have the correct the sight issue.

Yes, a Model 15 is a target sighted Model 10 and a much better solution IMHO.
There used to be a bolt on adjustable sight for 5 screw S&Ws-the name escapes me. You removed the factory screw (too short, IIRC), bolted on the sight, and were good to go. A 3 screw would need to be drilled and tapped.

It was the Wondersight or Wonder Sight, I believe.

The Wondersight?
