Nothing like being in the right place at the right time, which can take years. Excellent choice of firearms.

That's a much better plan than the books, toys and trinkets most people put in time capsules. Congrats, that is an excellent gun. Talk about being in the right place at the right time.

Thanks guys. I am really happy with this one. The guy said they it was received, wiped down with Rustprufe and stored in a Bore Store for the last 33 years. I couldn't pass this one up!

Nice! I did that with a Series 70 Colt Super 38. The gun shop bought it and stuck in the safe for 20 years. Let us know how it shoots...looking forward to the range report

That is amazing and you should go buy a lotto ticket as that kind of luck doesn't happen very often in life.

I am shooter and a collector but this one is an investment piece to admire and enjoy so it won't be getting shot. I know, I know it is a gun and it was made to be shot but I have a 29-8 mountain gun and a Redhawk to shoot so this one is going to be a safe queen. Sorry guys but this is just too nice to use after it has been preserved so well. If ones like this were a little more plentiful and not so expensive, I would have 2

Warm congratulations on your purchase. They are seldom seen in that condition without a lot of digging.
Pardon those who joke about shooting NIB specimens. It somehow relieves the stress each of us feels, just to know that will remain a pristine example. At least, it make me feel better that there indeed will be a legacy from this generation for the next, to witness the factory condition of many S&Ws. [Including foibles and flaws and many instances of perfection.]
Regards,
Dyson

The gentlemen that sold me the gun said he has people who buy ones like this and do intend to shoot it. He said they want to start with a fresh one just like it came form the factory. To each his own but I can't do it. If I was going to do that I would have looked for a 29-5, 98-99% and shot the hell out of it.

I'm with ya on keeping cokes out of the picture.
The targets Smith chose look plenty good to me.

You aint kidding. I am far, far from wealthy but I believe this will be a good investment. Maybe not as good as in 1978, but decent.

There's nothing I can say that other members haven't already said. That has to be one of the most beautiful 29s I've seen in the last decade. I did see a few others some time ago when I bought them new, shot the daylights out of them, and then sold or traded them off. What I would have done to have a working crystal ball back then. Congratulations!

Who wouldn't be envious of you finding a 29 like that in the presentatin box. The ultimate question is; are you going to shoot it?

I am tempted to pick up the other 29-2 nickle 8 3/8 that this guy has NIB. The wood presentation box is in bad shape and needs restored but otherwise it is complete. I am not that into the long barrels but I am considering it.
