went to a local gun show to get some ammo and came across a S&W model 15-2 in 38 special. Poor little beasty must have a hard like. Front sight had some dings, scratches on the cylinder,
cylinder retaining screw all buggered up. No end shake and good tight lockup was the clincher. Throats of the chambers were all leaded up and lead all over the face of the cylinder. Spent most of yesterday scrubbing the bbl, and the cylinder and finally got out all the lead. Been thinking of an iron sighted 38 special to carry when cutting the grass. Barrel is now spotless I'm happy to report. Has the wide milled trigger and large thumb pad on the hammer. T&T maybe. Some rust under the grips and a few spots on the frame. Some 4/0 steel wool and some breakfree clp and thats no longer a problem. Grips are worn more on the right side than on the left. Police gun?. Will have to check to see if I have an old set of rubber grips around. Think I overpaid $300 but I plan of installing a brass bead on the front sight and clean up the dings. Update, it's a 15-4 tiny letters and 65 year old eyes don't go together very well.

I'm sure it's a great Shooter!, I recently picked up a 14-1 which had holster wear as well as holster wear on the cylinder, the left, right and center sing is fine which indicate the timing good. Anywho, I took it to the range last Tuesday and it was dead on at 35 yards, i was even able to hit steel targets at 50 and 100 yards (playing with the front sight lifting above the rears), I liked it so much I bought another 500 bullets of 148gr WC.

I've long wanted a S&W in 38 special with adjustable sights. Here in Louisiana everyone starts at the 357 mag and it goes up from there. She cleaned up nicely and have to stone a couple dings on the front sight. Basically just wanted something I can shoot without breaking the bank and although I reload for the 357, 44 mag and 45 acp I think I might have a set of rcbs dies in 38 special somewhere. Wadcutters sound good also. Frank

I am a sucker for Smiths that need TLC. Probably has had a tough service life. Clean it up, spruce it up and shoot it. I consider it a calling to take care of these old Smths. They deserve it.

It's had a hard life, but has a LOT more to give...perfect choice....

The wood stocks that came with it didn't feel right and am sure they may be the ones origionally put on it. My brother gave me his wood stocks off his 586 and they were too big. Knew I had an old set of pacmayers ( spelling?.) floating around and finally found them. Now it fits my hand better. Still have to stone one ding on the front sight and hopefully will shoot it next weekend. Thanks again, Frank

Frank, I got a 15-3 Saturday that sounds like the twin Brother of yours. I just saw this thread after I started another post (Coupla Orphans). I paid just a tad less than you and ironically the right grip on mine has "shrunk" more than the left. Thats my story anyway. This one cleaned up pretty nicely and will be shot shortly.

Gentlemen, I'm one of those folks that exist in the 20th century. I own no digital camera, barely able to use this here computer and still have not figured out how to use my vcr. And as far as my truck radio is concerned its still set on the same station as when I bought it. When I bought the model 15 right below it was a model 10 with 3" bbl. Could have bought both but the wife was with me rolling her eyes. Decided not to push my luck. The 15 has nicks on the bbl below where the crown starts and some on the cylinder. Those are going to take a little more work to clear them up. Frank
