Found a pristine model 15 .38 special Combat Masterpiece today. The finish looked absolutely perfect and not even a turn line on the cylinder. I've never seen a 4" 15 this clean! It is a 15-4. It had the factory magnas which also looked like new. The grips turned out to be numbered to the gun! I couldn't dicker much on the price because of the condition, but walked out with it for $375 which I thought was a good deal. Alas, no box. Serial number was 23K6xxx, dating it to 1978 according to SCSW, making it a birth year gun for me! Along with it came home a little friend for it, a 2" model 31-1 in .32 S&W Long. The model 31 is serial number H38xxx, dating it to 1971 according to SCSW. I couldn't resist it for $200! The 31 has been used a little, but is certainly not abused. The model 31's grips also are numbered to the gun! Here's the pics:
The 15-4 is shown here wearing a set of factory targets I temporarily swiped from my 19-3 until I can find another pair. They fit my hand much better. If anyone has an extra set please let me know!
The magnas are shown in this pic:
