Default Model 19-2 came home

Just bought a nice 19-2 6" Blue steel with Checkered Targets. While waiting the 10 day ransom period, I looked in the S&W 3rd ed. for details. The 19-2 period is 1961-1967 w/ diamond targets. The serial # is R7828--, can't locate in the book. Any info re: DOB and stock info would be much appreciated.

Will post pics when received

Mike E

Hi, maybe you mistook a "K" for an "R" in the S/N?

K7828xx would place the gun around 1967-1968, I think.

Cheers

I think you are probably right. I own a 19-2 snubby and they went into the Gen. population starting in Dec. 1966. Should have the checkered diamond magnas.

I have a 19-2 in the K781000 range that was shipped in 1969 with checkered target stocks made of Goncalo alves. Your19-2 may have also been shipped in 1969 based on the serial number. By this time, the changeover to target stocks without the diamond had been made. The directive to delete the diamond from all NT and KT stocks was issued on December 28, 1967 and it took about a year to deplete the supply of old style diamond target stocks.

Probably not much help since I did not buy it new but I have 19-2 K713xxx and it has Walnut diamond targets. The gun is in nearly pristine condition, so I think there is not much chance the stocks were changed. I have seen both species on 19s of that era, but a lot more guns that had Goncalo Alves than Walnut, so I assume this one is in the minority.

I am surprised the OP has to wait 10-d to receive his weapon. You would think the State of CA would be a little more courteous to one of its retired LEOs, but maybe they have been reading some of his comments here about liberals and Priuses.

Don't know about retired, but active LEOs get plenty of courtesy.

Such as being able to purchase any handgun they desire regardless of whether it's on the "not too unsafe for peons" roster.

And standard cap magazines, of course.

The roster is one reason we pay such a premium for older S&W revolvers. Not on the roster & never will be.

Just not "not unsafe" enough, not to mention the threat of conversion to high cap military style assault cylinders and that shoulder thing that goes up.

That last was a bit of humor.

Now Mister 29- why did you have to go there.
I re-visited my hostage and verified that it is a "K" number.
The Gon. avles do appear original because the S# Falls within what MR. DOC was saying. OK- only mystery left is how many priuses will a 158 gr. magnum bullet go through? I could not calculate the standard deviation that a liberal might cause if it got in between the priuses.

Thanks all
I'll post pics when I get it.

oh- yea- to get any love with DROS, we have to provide a letter from our department to beat the ten day period. And I am in-fact exempt from the California exclusion law- I can bring in modern as well as C&R guns. I have compliant FFl's and everything I need- It's you folks out there that let California laws interfere when you state categorically," No sales to CA!"

cheers-

Default Combat Magnum is Home at Last--

This baby came home on Monday. I thought I'd share the beauty of our shared affliction- enjoy. And as usual, please berate me mercilessly for my selfish pleasures

Maybe it's just me but I never get tired of seeing that .357 Magnum stamped on the side of a barrel.

Looks like someone has used it a little but taken excellent care of it. Great looking gun. Very nice. Can we expect a shooting report?
