What is it about a 3.5 inch 27? I think some people just like longer barrels.
My own tastes run to the more compact models:
Just kidding, my friends. I always have half an eye out for a 3.5" Pre-27. When I find the right one it will take up residence in the safe.

Yes, there is something about the balance and feel of a 3 1/2" 27. This one is a Pre 27 and letters to Sept 1953 with the non-relieved target grips.

every time time I log on and start reading these threads, I get the I got to have it's!!!! I wont be able to close my baby blues with out thinking I need a a 27 with that short 3 1/2'' barrel way too cool!!!!!

Could be wrong, but I think that's a 4".
I have one and looked for a very long time before I found it. They are WAY more rare than a 3.5"

What is it about the 3 1/2" N-frame Model 27? The proportions!!!!! ...... The frame size; to butt to barrel length the proportions are pleasing to the eye ......... not to go all Harvey Weinstein; but kind of like the old 36-24-36
it just looks 'right" and is pleasing to the eye.
Inverse is also true..... pre-war service stocks on a 8 3/8" N-frame..... IMO looks wrong and out of proportion.
From all the pictures here; generally there's nothing else in the picture to judge size against....I wanted a 3 1/2" 27 for about 10 years......but when I finally held one.... OMG it's "BIG". Turns out when I actually am holding them,I like the 4 and 5 inch barrel length 27s and 28s better than the 3 1/2 for overall size. LOL I see rcortesvargas in post #59 above agrees with me!!!! 
Take a look at a 3" K-frame 66.....smaller but the same proportions..... frame to butt to barrel are similar to a 3 1/2" N-frame...............but the overall size allows for easy concealed carry.

I think the charm of the 3.5 is that profile of combat revolver.

3.5 inch holster
If you were going to carry a 3.5 inch Model 27 on a fairly regular basis around your property and sometimes perhaps C.C. the same off-property, is there any "favorite holster" that one might look into? I would prefer a belt holster as opposed to inside-the-waistband.
I realize you're not going to get "pocket j-frame" concealment carrying an N-frame in a belt holster, but I'd like some suggestions on holsters for the 3.5 inch Model 27 if anyone has any.

I honestly don't know the attraction...
Nice gun, proportions, looks, etc., and I can stop any time, really... 
Now, if you don't believe the above statement, I have to admit that I did stop, it was hard, but I made it and am still in (sorta) recovery...
Here's the current stable of the 3 12" N frames in my safe.
So, it can be done (stopping, that is), just need to put your mind to it and join regular counseling meetings (usually at Pawn shops or gun stores.. )

Personally, the 3.5" is my favorite. It just has a certain je ne sais quoi.
I would love one in nickel to go with my remaining blue 3.5".

Finally found my nickel 3.5” and it’s sweet. I found it at a VFW swap meet, of all places.

Patton described his 3.5" .357 as his "killing gun" though there's no evidence he ever shot it in anger. $48 in 1935 dollars is approximately $1,038.05 today.

In answer to your question I would look at DM Bullard leather or Lobo Gunleather.

Thanks! I'll do that right now. I have a 3.5 inch Model 27 barrel (in Mexico) and am looking for a "beater Model 27" -- either when I'm actually down there or when I'm not I have friends keeping an eye out -- to install the 3.5 incher onto.
I intend to have one, even if I have to build one myself. Obviously I won't be building it in Canada. But it's an itch I have to scratch and Mexico will do fine.

I had a real nice one from the late sixties ,action job ,jeweled hammer and yellow insert front ramp.I quickly traded it because I just couldn't find a look with grips I liked with it.To me it just look odd unless it was wearing service stocks which I'm not a fan of on an N Frame.This was back in 1988.

My 3.5 inch barrel is "in the shop" getting remarked to .38 Special somewhat like yours. I'll see it when I get back down there this winter. (And pay for the work, of course.)

Just like the rest of the Model 27's imo -
I'm just feel very fortunate to have one.
To me, there's absolutely nothing else like it -
As for a holster, I really like the Simply Rugged Holster - I also have their Chesty Puller Suspension System-and it is really nice.

What is it about the 3.5" M27? Pretty much everything...
The truth is that I shoot K frames a little better, but the 3.5" M27 would definitely be the last one I'd ever let go of.

And I second any recommendation for DM Bullard leather. I've got a LOT of his holsters and I love them. I don't have one from him for the 3.5" 27 though. I might have to fix that.
I do have one from Simply Rugged though. I usually find myself carrying K frames.

I have a 4" model 27, a buddy has a 3.5" pre model. We have both agreed that if either goes first I get his 3.5" Pre Model and he gets my Lew Horton 24-3.

I was a teenage kid in Utah in the mid 60's, it was not uncommon for a guy to try and outrun USP...with the advent of the .357 if they could pull up alongside you after the last warning to pull over was refused and shoot through the fender taking the engine out...or so the legend goes. We did have a local cop known as "shoot first and ask questions later" who was famous for "BAM! BAM! Stop or I'll Fire!" Those were certainly different years. A buddy and I got caught relieving ourselves in the Safeway parking lot after a night of beer drinking, the cops hauled us down to the station. I remember the letters in blue fluorescent JAIL with an arrow pointing down. We got to the stairway which had at least a dozen stairs and as we started down the stairs the cops lit into us with sticks, at the bottom while we were nursing bruises one old cop said "Have you boys learned your lesson or do we need to call your folks down?" We replied with "OH YESSIR, we have learned our lesson." We were released and went our way, lesson learned.

While I actually prefer IWB for this gun (via a Summer Classic from Barranti Leather), I can readily recommend a Milt Sparks PMK as an OWB option for same.

The 3.5"-barreled 27s do have a classic charm - OK, I'll say it - they are SEXY! The styling is classic, and when you find one with all the bells and whistles, the urge to grab it at any cost is almost unstoppable! This one is mine, and I admit it's a safe queen. Just looking at it is a treat. I have other similar guns that I shoot, but this one is for the ages, and needs to be kept pristine...

Yes Richard,
All of them look pretty, mine are just run-o-the-mill, dare we say regular versions from the other side of the tracks, while yours are - how do we say it - oh yeah "upper crust" versions...
Love the layout and all the revolvers in your pic..... I'm saving my aluminum cans so I can start "re-stocking" my 3 1/2" M27 bin, alas I fear they are all spoken for these days....
