Probably early seventies, before 1974. Probably one of the nicest revolvers Smith & Wesson ever made, too bad it never garnered the following that the model 29 achieved. Personally, I prefer it to the model 29, I just find it more shootable and I still haven't found a load that it doesn't shoot well. Unfortunately, if this is the first model 57, it likely won't be the last and that means I'll be less likely to find another.

I have no doubt you'll enjoy it, good shooting,
Steve

Thanks for the replys guys, its a great gun in super nice condition and hasnt been shot much, it came with original target grips in C A. and has that quality feel to it. The 41 mag sure doesnt get the respect it deserves thats for sure but I can tell you this is one I will keep and will be looking for a four inch version which I suspect I will have to pay more for. Ron.

I dont know how to load to this site,I could email them to someone to post or tell me how. Thanks, Ron.

I don't even own one and I'm a fan of them. I'm even collecting up a stash of brass. So I know I'm going to find one eventually...

Nice score! My all time favorite caliber. Yep you will need a 4" and a 3" to top it off. I need an 8" to finish off the barrel lengths. Next year maybe.

The 6.5" has many a deer to it's name and is my first S&W bought back in 76. It's my sentimental favorite and been back to the factory twice as I used to shoot the snot out of it with heavy loads. Eyes are worse these days but with the right conditions I'd feel comfortable taking a 50 yard shot at a deer without hesitation as it's still very accurate.

Ron,

Here's a picture of a 6" 57 no-dash until you can post a picture of your own.

Like many others, it's my favorite caliber, too....:)

Terry thats a beauty of a classic, what year was yours made? My M-57 has the target trigger and hammer and I am not so sure I like that versus the regulas trigger? I shot it today about 30 rounds its so sweet, do you have a favorite load for Jacketed bullets? I made up 50 rounds of 210 grain Hornady XTP over 20 grains of WW-296 and mag primer and they shot good groups when I did my part, the old eyes arent what they used to be. Ron.

Like many others here, I've been at collecting S&W handguns for several decades...

The .41 Mags have long been my favorite caliber having a 6" Mod 57 as my chosen sidearm in my early LE days. Later I used Mod 57's in 6" and 8 3/8" for big game hunting and had a lot of success with both. The 6" pictured in the first post was shipped from S&W in 1977.

You mention you may like a narrow trigger better.... several of us do. A highly polished narrow trigger makes all the difference in the world for comfortable feel on the big N frame guns. The wide serrated target trigger just feels rough and course compared to a narrow and polished one.

For info, all the 57 no-dash guns I've seen through the years have had target triggers and target hammers as standard factory issue.

As for loads for jacketed ammo I can't be of much help to you. I reload my own ammo for many calibers but I cast my own special alloyed bullets for them all. None of my hunting guns have ever seen a jacketed bullet.

You've got a wonderful gun in a great caliber. As someone else mentioned all the barrel lengths in this caliber add a different perspective to the outstanding usefulness of the 41 Mag caliber. You'll soon be thinking about a 4 and an 8 3/8" as well as a Mod 58 to add to your lineup. They are addictive...:)
