I know we have all come to points of our lives were for what ever reason, we had to sell a gun or two. You still may be looking to replaced it. So what is missing in your collection?

my 4" colt python, box, papers, etc., my 80 series Colt (Caspian full pimped out) officers... oh yeah, one of my 12-3 airweights. kept one, should have kept the other. times were tough and a guy in Boise Idaho gave me (at the time) fair prices on all. if you are him, and you remember the deal, i'll double it to get them back! almost forgot my Colt agent.... i kind of had a thing for Colt if you hadn't guessed by now...

Default regret

Sold my 4006 before I knew what a squib load was. Sent it back to S&W for repair, once it was "fixed" by them I sold it. After researching came to realize my first time reloading skills were at fault not the fine 4006.

A 6" blued Python with an "E" serial number prefix which included box and paperwork. I was beautiful and later, stolen from the new owner by a close relative & sold.

Ugh. Unexpected tough times forced me to sell many of my guns in a couple of weeks, meaning I didn't always get what I wanted out of them. It still hurts to think about. The two I miss most are:

Colt SAA in .44 special with a 7 inch barrel
Browning Hi-Power in the T - series, with pouch, paperwork, ect

Once I had a German 98 Mauser that had been rebuilt by Israel in 7.62mm NATO. It would routinely put 10 shots into less than 2.0 inches at 100 yds. Lost my job and ended up selling it... a Hi Standard Champion and a Colt 1911 Ser. 80. Had bills to pay... children and wife depending upon me. Sold a gorgeous 1921 dated all original Springfield 1903 for what was then a good price and a very nice Kar-98. Regret? Some. But guns can be replaced. The money helped us till I could find a job. It also taught my wife and I an important lesson... that we didn't ever again need to allow ourselves to be dependent on a single income. Happily my daughters never knew anything was wrong. Would I do it again? Absolutely.

Mainly this one: a 27-2 4" nickel. Maybe if I'd changed the goodyears to one of Kurac's grips I'd still own it. I didn't realize that particular configuration was so hard to find.

An 8 3/8" model 29 (no dash) was the only S&W, just because I didn't know they were so uncommon with that bbl... I think I've heard less than 500 made?

But others include: 6" Bright SS Python, 1878 Colt 12ga sxs, a Winchester 1873 38/40, 1902 Colt Bisley in 38-40, and Dan Wessons in 32mag & 41mag, and a Browning Hi-power.

My first handgun was a 4 inch nickel 15 that I sold off because it wasn't as cool as all of my buddy's automatics. Silly.

I took a trade for a 3 inch model 547. It was perfect. It's gone. That was not my best moment.

I see Jimmy J chimed in. I know a while back you posted that you were selling a bunch for personal reasons. Hope you didn't have to sell everything.

As for me oddly I don't regret selling or not having any of them. I know others will say; " he's not a true S&W guy". Well since 1974 or so of all the handguns I've owned only one wasn't an S &W.

It's just that my needs have changed as I've gotten older. I no longer hunt, or do distance shooting outdoors. I live an a clustered urban setting and all my shooting is at indoor ranges and strictly for self defense.

All the 6 or 61/2" barrel smiths I had were fun no doubt but that was another time. Not a semi auto guy but the 39-2 I had was really nice. But the 59 I had was nicknamed the jamamatic.

Right now I'm into 2 to 3" 44 or 45 cal revolvers.With the lone smaller frame a 3" 65-5.

Of course I'm not a collector. I'm a user but not an abuser.Guns are tools that should get proper care.

Dave

The guns I regret selling are the ones that skyrocketed in value after I let them go.

The one I regret the most wasn't a gun. We discovered an old American flag in the attic at the cottage when I was a kid. IIRC, it had 36 stars and I know it was hand sewn. My parents were going to trash it and I grabbed it and later sold it. I would love to have that back. Stupid, stupid, stupid kid.

Let’s talk about something less painful, like root canals!

A Ruger ultralight rifle with the tang safety.Didn't group factory ammo worth a hoot, got me started reloading. Didn't take much work to come up with several moa loads. My first Colt government. The only Win 94 I've owned.I'm looking to replace the last one,but I keep tripping over old S&Ws and Colts.

I sold the first revolver I ever owned, a Model 48 with the 8 3/8-inch barrel, back in 1972 to get enough money to buy an Italian 10-speed road bike, in order to pursue my infatuation with a young red-haired cyclist. The redhead's long gone. Wish I still had the 48.

One of mine was a pre 43 2" NIB with all the papers and tools. It lettered to Daniel Wesson, Smith & Wesson. I sold it to a fellow SWCA member. I needed cash to buy some rare Smith & Wesson catalogs that after I sold the gun, the dealer decided he was going to keep the ones I wanted.

A Hopkins and Allen under-hammer percussion muzzle Loader. That was in 1964. I still wish I haden't sold that rifle. I now make sure that when I get rid of a gun that it really doesn’t work for me.

Never sold but 1 .I have traded a ton, to many to list. One that stands out is a Colt Diamondback 2 1/2" .22. What was I thinking.

Walther PP in .22LR.
Sako Hunter AV in .300WM.
Forgot one. Trap grade 870, three barrel set of fixed chokes.

Sold a few others with no regrets, as I only sell to fund a better one, now.

In the early 80's I bought two S&W first model, 3rd editions, for a total of $50. They were in great shape. Sold them a year later for twice what I paid for them. Wish I still had them, they were cute!!

Non S&W, a Luger Artillery Model, all matching #'s, with holster. Bought if for $125, sold it for $270 to get money for a landscaping project...for a house I no longer own. I saw the dealer list it later for WAY more than I sold it to him for.

Live and learn.

And, I sold a Ruger 10/22 that I used for plinking when I needed to put a down payment on an engagement ring.

Darn, I miss that rifle.

All of them, guns are for buying!
IF i had to pick a one it would be my Grandfathers Browning auto which I traded off in the 70's for a "never fail ya" wingmaster.
Wish I could 've kept them all!

I regret selling all of them, but mostly my model 28 I carried on duty for many years. Therefore I do not sell any of my guns now.

A couple of Colts top my list starting with a 1979 manufactured Python 8 inch Royal Blue with box.Had to sell it to buy equipment for a new job. Then I traded off a Government Model 380, bright nickel with the white grips to buy a Colt Combat Commander 9MM in satin nickel; which I hated. Traded it on who knows what.

I only regret trading two S&W's. A 27-2 6.5 inch with box and a 66-1 6 inch.
