Value of a 17-3 8 3/8"
What would be the value of a 17-3 8 3/8" barrel in about 95 percent condition ? Also, how rare is the 8 3/8" barrel? Thanks.

At my LGS there is a 17-3 with a 8 3/8". I believe that is 98+ in its box with all the trimmings for 795.00.

A lot of people run down the 8 3/8 barrel but on my 17-4 it's the most accurate of my S&W model 22 revolvers and in fact it thinks it's a rifle. Back to your question as these have gone up since I bought mine for $550 mint no box, tools or paperwork. At 95% I'd put the price on yours at $600 to $650 to the right buyer.

Thanks for the info. I found this 17 for sale, and can't decide if I need it or not. Everytime I find an older Smith, I think I ought to buy it. Oh, the addiction. That long barrel just looks cool.

I also have a 17-4 with the 8 3/8ths inch tube, and just like fyimo mine shoots like a rifle. Darn sweet looking revolver too.

I won this 17-3 at auction Saturday. Picked it up today and it looks much better than this pic from the seller. Easy 98%. Price with shipping was $560.56. Just the gun. Great seller, btw. Couldn't be happier.

Congratulations and that should be a killer shooter as mine is by far the most accurate S&W revolver I own.

(I hate postin' pictures after Art... His stuff looks like magazine photos!)
I have a Mod 17-4 and a mod 17 that are two of my favorite K-22's...
... and both were in the 5 hundred range.

A lot depends on if the particular revolver has three "T"s from the factory and a box and tools. They can get pretty pricey with all the options. Big Larry

That is a really nice one! If you think it's too nice to shoot, I won't argue with you, but I encourage you to go forth and get yourself a "shooter grade" Model 17 with a long barrel. They are a lot of fun to shoot!

I have lots of shooters. 3 M617's I shoot a lot. I bought, for my collection, a M14, M17, M48,and M53, N.I.B.all 8 3/8"ers. I have had several 8 3/8 guns over the years and they do shoot well, but I mostly shoot off my 4 wheeler now and the long tubes get in the way. My favorite shooters are the 4" 22's like my 70's vintage Ruger KS-4 and my 4" M617 no dash. Big Larry
