When S&W packages new guns, they are wrapped in VCI paper to prevent corrosion. I bought VCI pouches from The Rust Store - they come in different sizes - for the guns i don't use much, even for rifles and shotguns. For guns that I keep handy in my house, I have them in plastic sandwich bags with small moisture absorbant dessicator packs. Easy access and keeps guns and ammo in them dry.

Do I Over Do It?
I put mine in one of those specially treated plastic bags; seal it with some rubber bands; then I put that inside a silicone sock and tie it shut. Then it goes into my safe which has several desiccant mechanisms. I put a small label on each one to facilitate identification!

A good place to store handguns on a temporary basis is in the safety deposit box in a bank. They don't see what you are putting in the box plus it is a climate controlled area. Not real handy to get to after hours. Although with Obama in charge I am not sure if I trust banks but it is the best option if you don't have a safe!

I am an abuser. I'm sorry to burst any bubbles you guys have but:
I stick them in drawers, under my pillow, in the crevice of the stuffed chair that I'm sitting in/on, in the kitchen cabinets and any place they will be handy.
What good is a gun, you can't reach when you need it?
Oh yes, I have many more than, ONE!
Care= useing them often and cleaning when needed, after use.
How often do you wash and clean your pocket knife? Where do you store it? Over 75 hand guns, are ready to use, within arms reach, as they should be.
Safe queens are not allowed in my home.

Lots of nice custom drawer rigs posted, very good looking and efficient. I'm a little jealous.

I used those as well, but mine came from BassPro (I needed several, I had a credit coming back to me there, and they were on sale to boot ).
Like many of you I am not a "one brand only guy," but most of my revolvers (stored in my second-largest safe) are S&Ws...
And some of my semi-autos (in the biggest of the safes) are S&Ws as well, but a smaller percentage than with the wheelguns...

I just purchased a 29-2 from a forum member and it arrived at my FFL in a Crown Royal bag so I assume that must be the ticket.
