Default Hammer and trigger refinish?

So I don't see how I will ever afford to have the case hardened coloring on my 19-4's hammer and trigger. Some knuckle head before me scrubbed them and left it just looking miserable. So I got to thinking about maybe trying to remove them and finish off the last of the coloration. But what to replace it with??? My first thought was to break out the Brownells Oxpho Bluing Creme. But what the heck would that look like? Then I thought about sending them off for something like hard chrome plating or similar. As I understand it, I may be able to get a satin darker color than a garish looking mirror chrome finish would have. But then I get back to the cost factor. I already have the bluing so free... Or who knows how much... Do I have a third option before I give the bluing a chance and start looking up chrome options...?

A picture might help show what I'm talking about...

The easy option is to replace the hammer and trigger with color case hardened ones. These parts should not be hard to find in like new condition.

Hope this helps.

Don't they have to be professionally fitted together?

Not really, they are built to some pretty tight tolerances. If they were off some it would only take a bit of light stoning to get them right.

With a bit of luck, replacements, especially if they are used and already a matched set from another gun, will drop right in and work perfectly. As for refinishing, cost is about $25 per small part for a true case color. A few custom 'smiths do it.
I've tried faking it on some antiques with only so-so results.

Would you mind telling me who does this at that price?!?!?!

The few places I saw prices listed wanted just a little more than that. I would jump all over that for refinishing a pair of hammers and triggers.
